Stung 17x this morning on my thighs, legs, knees, calves and feet.
Started and stung 2x on the outside and 2x on the inside of each thigh. Then, 1x on the outside and 1x on the inside of each knee. Then, 1x on the outside and 1x on the inside of each calve. Then, 1x behind each ankle. Then, 1 bee escaped Carol's, my wife, tweezers and stung me on the front of the right thigh.
The overall number of stings in the last session on Wednesday were good so I kept it up today too. I like mixing up the number of stings per session. I continue to feel that the important thing is to continue to sting - sometimes more, sometimes less - but to just continue keeping the venom going in. This I believe is what can keep this "dis-ease" from progressing. So I sting on.
Weather has continued to be raelly beautiful and although the pond water is ever "cooler" it really feels great. Each time I go in and I have to hum to myself, "This may be the last time, this may be the last time, may be the last time - I don't know ho."
And here is yet another update from my good buddy Fred who is finoshing up his 2nd week of electro-magnetic therapy in Mexico.
Sept.15,1998
Only had one treatment today because
the streets were closed as this is Independence day in Mexico.Lots of celebration
going on.In the evening Dr. Memo came to my room and gave me several shots
in my lower back of ladicane to sitmulate the nerve endings. No big deal. Not
any worse than bee stings.
Sept 16,1998
Today was good,went swimming and
had only one treatment.I was able to walk from the car to the entrance
of the clinic all the way inside to the therapy table. I did use my cane, but
my walking feels stronger with each day that passes
Grace the other patient here is
now feeling sensations in her legs that she has not felt for a long time.
More positive things tomorrow I
hope. Fred at the "Theratec
Clinic SA DE CV" <theratec@interclan.net>
Well, if Fred is feeling better this is great. Don't know what "ladicane" is and wonder how that works with the electro-magnetic deal. I'm not puting it down, just wondering. Because I know that when I had gotten shots of ACTH and the like, it certainly got me up and about. Either way and in whatever fashion - if Fred is getting better, this is first and foremost.
Day 506 - 5:24pm - Sept. 21, 1998 EST
Stung 12x this morning on my sides. neck and arms.
Started and stung 4x down either side - from below the armpit to my hips. Then, 1x on the neck below the hairline and finally 1x on each arm.
The weekend has been hot and humid and I have spent time in the pond although it's been cloudy and not really swimmimg weather. I've also been feeling awfully tight and stiff in the knees and ankles which is why I pushed forward to swim in the pond. Perhaps I did too many stings on the legs on Friday - should spread them out along the entire body more.Just need to loosen up more.
And I know that the Electro-magnetic Therapy my cyberbuddy Fred is undergoing in Mexico has nothing to do with bees, however, Fred keeps in touch and maybe there's something to learn. Fred had been a committed stinger, off & on, for years. He'd experienced lots of exacerbations and went for this therapy. Fred writes:
". . . .Sept.18,1998
Started out the day swimming in
the pool which always feels good. The morning section at the clinic went
well. Was able to walk into the clinic
with my cane.Felt strong today
and rode the bicycle for seven minutes.
Usally when I do they have to strap
my right foot to the pedal because there is not enough strenght to keep
it in one spot for that long of time.
But today I rode the whole time
with out having to do that.
In the afternoon I went to get
a hair cut.Walked in and out with only my cane.A two dollar hair cut is
hard to find in the U.S.
Had my afternoon treatment which
included walking in and out of the clinic with my cane.
My next goal that I am striving
for is to walk without my cane on a regular basis as I once did.
Today was another positive day,
tomorrow will be another. . . . " Fred at the "Theratec Clinic SA
DE CV" <theratec@interclan.net
I don't know much about this therapy and what it's really all about. But I sure am happy for Fred and that he is getting some relief. I am anxious and excited to hear more and more on how Fred responds to this therapy. In the meantime, for me, Bee Venom Therapy is doing what needs to be done.
Day 508 - 5:17pm - Sept. 23, 1998 EST
Stung 16x this morning on my back, thighs, feet and hands.
Started and stung 1x atop each shoulder. Then, 4x down each side of the back approx. 4" from the spine. Then, 1x atop each thigh and 1x atop each foot and 1x atop each hand.
Things have gotten quite a bit cooler over the last few days and indeed I may have seen my last days of the pond until next spring. I miss it so already. I will have to rely on the bees now for energy plus start on a regimen of movement and exercise - whatever there is to do. Stinging with fewer bees last session was good and my legs didn't feel as stiff as they had last week. I must continue to remember to move the stings around the entire body. MS is a total body dis-order.
Here's a letter from Carol. She and her husband, Rick, are committed stingers. Carol writes:
". . . Haven't E-mailed you for
a while and thought I would give you an update on
how Rick is doing on his bee stings.
We are still stinging three times a
week, but the stings are really
starting to HURT Rick. At first we thought
this was just because he had gotten
a lot of feeling back, but the pain
seems to be getting worse with
each sting session. It doesn't last too
long, but really hurts a lot at
the time. Any thoughts on this??
No real progress to report - feeling
in legs is gone again, after being back
for a couple of months. He can
still move his legs and feet (which he could
not do before we started stinging)
but can no longer feel them. Energy and
strength is still better than before
we started stinging (in May) but seem
to have reached a plateau - not
getting better, but not getting worse,
either. We'll keep going, and try
to avoid the places where the pain is
worst (neck, front of shoulders,
wrist).. . . " Rick & Carol <rcj1@earthlink.net>
So Rick has been having some decent results from the Bee Venom Therapy. No, not a cure. He is now beginning to feel things that he hasn't been feeling in years. And yeah, bee stings do hurt. Maybe Rick needs to sting in more areas. Maybe those places like the neck and shoulders hurt now but have really been key areas for his body's reawakening. Maybe they should just go slower on those places but not avoid them completely. I don't have the answers - it's all still an experiment. Perhaps there are others that have some more thoughts on this. I'm sure Rick and Carol would love to hear from them. Meanwhile - keep at it Rick. Because not getting worse is getting better.
Day 510 - 5:27pm - Sept. 25, 1998 EST
Stung 14x this morning on my hips, thighs, calves, ankles and skull cap.
Started and stung 1x on each hip. Then, 1x on the outside of each thigh and 1x on the outside of each calve and then 1x behind and on the outside of each ankle. Then, 1x on each side of the head - just below the skull cap - and fiinally 1x on each hand - between thumb and index finger.
Had our first frost the other night although the temperatures have gone back up into the mid 70's again today. I look longingly at that pond and almost am ready to jump back in but oooo - it is icey cold. But if the weather stays warm for another day or two - I will.Meanwhile, I have been forcing myself to "schlepp" around the house more - going nowhere in particular. But I must keep moving. I must.
Another letter from my good buddy Fred in that Mexican clinic. An off and on committed stinger for years, he's undergoing Electro-magnetic therapy after some serious exacerbations. Fred writes:
" . . . Today I went swimming in
the pool and was able to pick my right leg up higher while in the water
than all the previous times.
Dr. Davidson left today for another
country and told me there's no reason why I won't me completely normal
with in time. It's really up to me.How hard I am willing to work at my recovery. He
really is a very unusal man.Speaks six languages and has a phd is nuclear
physics.Every one here was very impressed with his knowledge.
I wish t e others could have been
here during his breif stay.
My bowels have improved to almost
normal but my bladder still needs time.
Mary lou and grace are doing very
well and Dr. Davidson says the tremors that Marylou has will lessen soon.Yesterday
while on the table he plated her shoulder and neck and the went away for
a brief time. These tremors have been with her for a very long time. Her
husband Gary must feed her because she shakes so bad.
If you remember the only thing
Marylou wanted was to be able to recieve communion with out shaking, but
now she wants to walk too. Can't blame her for that and I know great things
will happen for her and everyone else.
Today Tom changed my plane reservations.I
havn't spoke with him but I believe I will leave wednesday the 30th.
So one more week to squeeze as
much out of this treatment that I can.. . " Fred "Theratec Clinic
SA DE CV" <theratec@interclan.net>
Alright, Fred literally marches ahead. He seems to be really benifiting from this treatment and I think it's great. If indeed Fred is now "cured" of this "dis-ease" then I would say that there certainly will be no holding Fred back from regaining everything he'd ever lost - and then some. The thing about MS, and all these treatments though, is - some things work for some people and not for others. I will certainly be curious, and hopeful, to see how this therapy serves Fred once he's back in Arizona. It all sounds just so wonderful. And I will not say "too good to be true" because nothing is too good to be true. Nothing.
Day 513 - 6:07pm - Sept. 28, 1998 EST
Stung 16x this morning on my back, thighs, calves, feet and shoulders.
Started and stung 4x down either side of the spine - approx. 4" from spine. Then, stung 1x on the front of each thigh and 1x on the outside of each calve. Then, 1x on each foot - above the large toe. Finally, 1x atop each shoulder.
Woah, the days this weekend turned real hot and humid and I was back in the pond. And man, was it great! I woke up Saturday feeling real stiff and tight and then went into the cool water - cold water - and I was just metamorphisized. in 15-20 minutes I just became energized. Hadn't been in the pond for a week or so and I just can't get over what a difference it makes. It's just unbelieveable.
Now, here's a letter from my good cyber-friend Ray - a letter which he'd written to Pat Wagner, the Beelady. Ray has been having a real hard time. Ray writes:
". . . PAT I'M DESPERATE. I WALKED INTO YOUR HOME
A YEAR AGO WITH A WALKER AND MY
WIFE AND HAVE BEEN BEDRIDDEN AND WHEELCHAIR BOUND
FOR MONTHS. MY RIGHT HAND
IS GETTING REALLY BAD. I AM UP TO 2653 STINGS
AND SEE LITTLE IF ANYTHING FROM
THEM. I DON'T WANT DRUGS EITHER, BUT I WANT SOMETHING.
WITH ALL DUE RESPECT,
I, AM, OF THE ONES IN WHICH BEE STINGS DOES NOT
APPEAR TO POSITIVELY EFFECT.
I THINK A YEAR IS A GOOD TRY, DON'T YOU?
RAY Rayseal@aol.com
And here was Pat's Response. Pat writes:
". . .Yes, a year is good and I
thank you for trying. The bees have not hurt
you (except the sting). They perhaps
have kept you from getting where I
was - completely bedridden with
no hope. I'm now doiing more - herbs,
muscle stimulator, etc. The pollen
was the first thing that told me to do
more. It alone is good. Will you
at least try it for 2 or 3 weeks? It
can't hurt - only help. If you
can't find any near you, call Beehive
Botanicals at 1-800-BEEHIVE.
I've done 19,480 beestings. I can't
tell you the changed I've had in just
the past three days [?]. Whatever
you do, remember that I do care - OK?
Till next time, I wish you my best.
Pat Wagner <beelady@olg.com>
Well, my heart goes out to Ray. He is a committed and determined gentleman and stinger. Yet, I feel like Pat does - one never knows what things would have been like without any stinging. And I know Ray feels that the stings have served him well - in some ways - I mean, he does continue to sting. But I understand his frustration. And I send him lots of good energy and support because this is the time one needs it the most.
I will try the "pollen" myself. More of it, anyway. I take little capsules now - but maybe I should be taking more. Regarding medicines . . . I am not against anything and if Ray needs some steroid therapy to kick him back into condition - heck, that's what they're there for. I'm not against steroids, they've certainly served me well - in the past. It's just that you can't stay on them forever - as much as you'd like. And for me, the Bee Venom Therapy seems to keep things "under control" - at leasrt until there is something better.
Day 515 - 7:02pm - Sept. 30, 1998 EST
Stung 14x this morning on my back, knees, feet, collar bone and elbows.
Started and stung 3x down either side of the back - approx. 2" from the spine. Then,1x on the outside of each knee and 1x above each large toe. Then, 1x on either side of the collar bone - in front.. Then, 1x on the outside of each elbow.
The stings on Monday were good and I've been feeling a bit less tight and stiff. Have also been making that attempt to continue to "schlepp" around the house and get up and move those legs in any way that I can.
Here's another - and final - letter from my cyber-friend Fred who's just finishing up a month of Electro-manetic therapy in a Mexican clinic. Fred writes:
. . . " 9/29 Well today is my last
day here at Theratec. When I first arrived I was mentally and physically
in sad shape.I was in a wheelchair and had a very
hard time even getting out of it.Today
I walk some times with a cane and sometimes with out.I had a very bad exacerbation
before comming
here.In twenty years of this disease
I never really knew what that really meant. Now I know.
I was very fortunate to meet two
wonderfull couples,Sid,Marlene,Fernando and Marcela.
They made me feel welcomed,waited
on me, wheeled me to my room and made me feel like a person again. They
are good people and we have a
date in the year two thousand for
a reunion.I will never forget them.
Tom, Suzy and Vickie who run the
clinic have been the same way. They really believe in what they are doing
and most of all they care.
After living with these people
day in and day out for twenty eight days one really gets to know their
personality and what's in their head.
All the people at the hotel that
work there and even people outside are so humble and always trying to help
you.
I have family in Mexico and they
are all the same way.
And then there's my wonderful wife
who is my love and my life. With out her I would not have been able to come
down here.My Mom was a big
inspiration in me coming down here.
The hardest part about comming
down here was being alone.Support is so very important, but Sid,Marlene,Fernando, and
Marcela made it so
much easier.
I got a piece of my life back while
down here but more remains.
I know there will be ups and downs
but am hopeful this treatment will be lasting. If I had the money and the
time I might stay longer but I need
to return to the real world and
especially my wife.
So with that I want to thank you
for letting me share my experiences with you while on my journey back to
health.God bless all of you. . . .Fred fsoly@SSVEC.ORG
(Fred Soly)
Again, sounds like Fred certainly is a believer and feels as though he's certainly gotten his money's worth. Although one can't really put a dollar sign on one's health, can they? Well, I'm super happy and excited for him and I'm sure his wife and children are a lot more excited about his homecoming. From what I know of his wife Sharon, she is an extremely supportive and loving partner - and we all know how important that is. I will be in touch with Fred, keeping a pulse on just how he's doing. Because if indeed Fred is cured. . . woah!
Day 517 - 6:07pm - Oct. 2, 1998 EST
Stung 8x thi morning on the lower extremities . . . then ran out of bees.
Started and stung 1x on each buttock. Then, 1x on the outside of each thigh and 1x on the outside of each calve and finally 1x on the crease of each foot.
The stings on Wednesday were okay but not as good as when I sting more on my thighs and calves. But the stings on my collar bone were good for fatigue and gave me lots of upper body energy. And the stings on the hands, arms and elbows - they always help stiffness and tightness in the hands. But it is always the walking that seems to tell the biggest story, for me. So I used the 8 bees I'd had on them. If I need more, I'll send Katrina, my 12 year old, out to the hives for more tomorrow.
Now here's a letter from Donna M who's become quite a committed stinger and a good cyber-friend. Donna writes:
". . . I just wanted to give you
a little update on how I am doing. I am really having atough time moving
my left foot at all. It almost
feels like it is glued to the floor. Being quite frightened about the whole
thing I called Pat Wagner yesterday morning to get
some input from her about where to sting and the like. Wow! What an encouraging
lady. She also told me to take 1/2 tablespoon
of bee pollen up to 6 times a day. She said that she would guarantee that
I would be feeling better in a couple of
weeks. I started with this today.
I also got some royal jelly and started it today too. I am really having
a tough time but am determined
not to do the steroids again. I think that they are part of why I am in
such bad shape now. They suppressed my immune
system so that I got a virus and that set me up for my relapse. The change
of seasons may have played a part in it too but,
I think more so the steroids. I just wanted to send you a little note to
let you know what I am up to. I will do 35 stings for
my next 2 sessions then go back
down to 25. I guess that I will just have to see how things go from here.
. . ." Donna <sixlegs@onramp113.org>
Well, like I said, Donna is quite a committed stinger and is even doing 35 stings per session. That's a lot of stinging per session but she obviously feels she really needs the boost right now - and can handle it. She blames the steroids for her weakened condition and this may or not be the case. I wonder what sort of experiences others have had when it comes to steroids. Everyone is different and when nothing else is working one must make do wih whatever there is, I would think. But you just can't second guess this "dis-ease" - you have to move forward. So good luck, Donna. It sounds like you're doing all the right things and have a terrific attitude to boot.
Day 520 - 6:01pm - Oct. 5, 1998 EST
Stung 12x this morning on my sides, arms and hands.
Started and stung 4x down each side - then, 1x on each arm and 1x on each hand - between thumb and index finger.
Sent Katrina, my 12 year old, down to the hives for more bees on Sunday. Definitely missing the swimming and those days are history now. Tempretures haven't gotten out of the 60's all week. But still, when I sting I get that rush and when I know there are places I have to "get to" I must sting my legs in advance.
Now, here's an e-mail from my cyber-buddy Ray who's been ahving a hard time. Ray writes:
". . .i discontinued the stings
while I'm getting steroids. up to 2675 total . . . hopefully will do the
methotrexate gig within
4 weeks. steroids have done nothing either good or bad yet. have
gotten 3 of 5 IV's to date. curious
and anxious about hearing about Fred. . . .:" Rayseal@aol.com
Ray is a committed stinger and has been for a long time - but he needs more and is trying other things. I am anxious to stay in touch and hear from him and how all these other treatments work out for him - especially in contrast to the bees. Like I always say, I'm not against ahything and everything has its merits at the appropriate times. I'm hoping and praying that these treatments give Ray some needed relief.
Day 524 - 5:14pm - Oct. 9, 1998 EST
Stung 10x this morning on my back, neck and hands.
Started and stung 3x down either side - approx. 3" from pine. Then, 1x on each side of the neck and 1x on each hand - between thumb and index finger.
The cold I had coming had gotten worse before it got better but I believe I'm on the mend - slowly. Had gone for a dental appointment on Wednesday and those stings on my legs did what I needed them to do. Had the energy - to "schlepp" in and out of the office. Not as easy as I'd have liked - but I did it and for this I am grateful. That's what the stinging is all about, I believe. It's keeping me in the "ballgame". Have an appointment with Dr. Jim next Thursday so I'll probably postpone Wednesday's session to Thursday - which I'll want and need to help energize me to "schlepp" in and out of his office. Level the playing field & even out the odds. Look forward to seeing him again.
Day 528 - 9:54am - Oct. 13, 1998 EST
Stung 10x this morning on my back, thighs and feet.
Started and stung 3x on each side of the back - approx. 1" from spine. Then, 1x on the inside of each thigh and 1x atop each foot - above the large toe.
Decided to change my sting days this week - especially since I have an appointment with Dr. Jim on Thursday and want to sting before I see him. So I stung this morning and will sting again on Thursday.
The days here in upstate NY have been really beautiful. Not too cold, but the changing leaves and colors are magnificent. Yesterday, Katrina, my 12 year old, and Carol, my wife, took a trip to Binghamton. Did some shopping and stuff and it just felt good to be into things. I'm not swimming anymore - too cold - but still doing all the stretching and pulling that I am able. There' no doubt that the bee stinging gives me the energy.
Here's a letter from Donna Marty she'd sent to a few of us. She's had some problems but is persevering. Donna writes:
". . . In the last couple of days
I have really noticed some improvement in my mobility. I am now able to
get my left leg and foot onto the bed without help. I can also lift both
feet enough to get them onto the foot rests of my wheelchair without using
my hands. I feel that my energy level is better too.
Pat you told me that if I kept
on stinging and took 1/2 table spoon of bee pollen up to 4-6 times a day
that I would feel better in 2 weeks . 2 weeks will be up on the 13th. You
were right! Thank you.
To the rest of you thank you for
your encouragement along the way. I have to admit that this was a scary
trip. I have never gone through an exacerbation before with out the steroids.
If it were not for the words of encouragement from you, my fellow stingers,
and my husband I might
not have continued onward.
No, I am not all the way back to
where I was before this exacerbation but, I am well on my way. In addition
to BVT I have been drinking some fresh vegetable juices and taking some
homeopathic remedies. These remedies are all natural and non-supressive.
I am taking one to help with
muscle spasms and two that are
to help the nerves. I am also taking a caloidal mineral supplement. I still
continue with my regular course of multi-vitamins, B complex, B 6, B 12,
vitamin C, magnesium, Ginko, grape seed extract, and Royal jelly. I am
in the process of looking into some
better quality vitamin supplements
though. . . Donna <sixlegs@onramp113.org>
I'm really impressed with Donna and really happy for her. She's had some tough times but she is doing all that she can with what there is - bees, vitamins, foods - this is smart and is obviously working. I wish her more and more success and look forward to her letters and her continued improvement.
Day 530 - 10:21am - Oct. 16, 1998 EST
Stung 18x yesterday on my sides, thighs, knees, calves and feet.
Started and stung 2x down either side. Then, 1x on each buttock and 1x on the front of each thigh. Then, 1x on the outside of each kneecap and 1x on the outside of each calve. Then, 1x atop each foot and 1x behind each ankle. And finally, 1x on each side of the neck.
Lots of stinging yesterday. had my semi-annual appointment with Dr. Jim, a great general practitioner who helped me get started with bee stinging 530 days ago in his office (see Day 1). So he put me through all the tests to see how I was faring and said, "I'd say - keep on stinging. It doesn't seem as though you've had any progression in 8 months or for that matter since you started with the bees. I'm impressed."
It was a a wonderful thing to hear, of course. Before going for my appointment I stung to even out the odds - wanting to be at my best as I "schlepped" in to the office, up some steps - in and out. But part of me felt sad because like all of us who sting and stick with it we want not only to persevere but to improve. Holding my own is great - fantastic - but I'm always straddling the fence - not wanting to get worse.
I know that when I first began Bee Venom Therapy my condition improved - my stamina, bladder control, balance and a host of other things. Now it seems that the stinging keeps things at a "status-quo" state. I'm not complaining because indeed with a "dis-ease" like MS, staying "even" is being better. But I want more and will never accept wanting less. But somehow and in some way keeping a steady stream of bee venom in my system seems to be doing more than anything else - without any side effects. So, what choice do I have but to "sting on".
And as I reflected on my condition and my situation I received this letter from Jack and realized again just how blessed I am - just to be in that enviable position of "being in a position" to sting" Jack writes:
". . . Hi Barry...? My name is Jack....
How're you doing? I've been reading
your journal, I guess its yours.
I've had CPMS since luly 1986 or
more. I'm 51. I did bee stings for 13
months. I followed Pat's book.
I think the bees were helping.Nothing
miraculous though, like I was hoping
for. Unfortunately
I've stopped since about 4 weeks
ago. My sister was helping me, but my
wife has been against it, the whole
time. Hasle upon hasle! Long story!
Anyhow, Barry, telll me about yourself
if you wish. I'd like to hear
more. I'm scared, I don't know
what to expect now that I've stopped.
I wish the MS societies would come
up with some results on the
efficacy on this BVT.
Take care... God bless, Jack....Jack
Trovato <jtrovato@sprint.ca>
Need I say more? This letter speaks all to clearly for itself. I'm posting this letter in the hope that perhaps there are folks who are near where Jack lives and can somehow help him out. Perhaps there are others who have some ideas and suggestions. . . or just some good old-fashioned support. I know how Jack feels. No miraculous results as he had hoped when he'd first started but like he says "I think the bees were helping." And what that means is that he wasn't getting any worse. . . . and perhaps even a bit better. Unfortunately, the only time we're able to tell for sure - is after we've stopped. How many times and how many people have written to me after they've given up on the Bee Venom Therapy and said, "Oh, I wish I hadn't stopped. If only I'd known."
I'm with Jack all the way. I'm hoping and praying for something good to turn out for him. And it can.
Day 533 - 5:01am - Oct. 19, 1998 EST
Stung 14x this morning on my back, chest, and feet.
Started and stung 4x own either side of the spine - approx. 3" - from spine. Then, 1x on either side of the chest - just below the crease of the armpit. Then, stung 2x on each foot - 1x above the large toe and 1x on the crease of the foot.
This past weekend was much warmer and more humid than normal for upstate NY - Indian summer. Thought about swimming in the pond but the season is over and it wasn't practical. Had a massage - more like "physical therapy" session - with Coleen on Sunday but seemed more tired - or fatigued - than usual. Could it have been because I hadn't stung since Thursday? Perhaps it was the abrupt change and rise in temperature. Anyway, felt better this morning although still stiff in the legs & was looking forward to stinging this morning. And, as usual, immediately after the session I felt so much looser and more energetic and fluid. What a difference those bees make.
Here's a letter from my wonderful cyber-friend Judy in Colorado. A committed stinger as well as a pillar of support for many others on this journey of hope and health. She updates us on Rachel in England who'd been on a regiment of bee stings. And then stopped. Judy writes:
". . .Remember Rachel from the United
Kingdom? Poor girl! I wish I were there
with her just for a sting session.
Her father called me last week - and the
family had stopped stinging Rachel
because she didn't seem to improve as fast
as they wanted - AND the stings
just hurt Rachel so bad. They DO hurt - no
doubt about it. But, she WAS improving
- ever so slowly - the family DID
notice a big difference. Well,
I suppose because of the discomfort and
because everyone wanted Rachel
to stop being paralyzed and get out of bed and
do a dance ... she was taken off
the bees and put on steroids. She plummeted
on the steroids. She dived so hard
and so fast. Her father called me and
said he hadn't written in so long
because of Rachel - she was going down-hill
so fast. He said he was so sorry
he had let the doctors put Rachel on
steroids. He was so hopeful and
he had been convinced by the professional
medical people - that steroids
were the only way to go. He is starting Rachel
back onto the bees.. . " Judy
JAlva76117@aol.com
Once again, it's that same old story of what happens - so often - when people just stop the stinging process without any real alternatives. That doesn't mean that there aren't other treatments that have value and merit. I mean, steoids are OK but it's not an on-going alternative - not a very good one, anyway. It's a "quick fix" when nothing else is working. I'm hoping an praying that Rachel sees some realief soon.
Day 535 - 7:20pm - Oct. 21, 1998 EST
Stung 10x this morning on my back and calves.\
Started below my armpits and stung 4x down either side. Then, 1x behind each calve.
Okay, we're definitely into colder weather here now - had some snow this morning. The stings on Monday were good and my legs felt a bit looser and stronger. My left foot has been cramping more and the toes have been curling more over the past week, hence those extra stings on my feet. It's not easy to "schlepp" around with little balance, stiff legs and curled toes. But the stings seem to help especially right after getting stung. This is good.
Now here's a letter from my cyber friend Ray. A committed stinger, he'd been having a hard time and had done some steroid therapy. Ray writes:
". . . THE STEROIDS DID ME REALLY BADLY THIS LAST
TIME. 1ST TIME I NOTICED NOTHING,
THE 2ND IT DID A LOT OF GOOD, BUT THIS TIME IT
LITERALLY DEVASTATED ME.
SEVERE VERTIGO, NAUSEA. AND ACCELERATION OF SYMPTOMS.
I WILL NEVER TAKE THEM
AGAIN. I REALLY EXPECTED THEM TO HELP, BUT THEY
DID THE OPPOSITE. . .
I feel bad for Ray because I know he's doing all that he can. Ray continues:
'. . . I GOT 23 BEE STINGS TODAY ON MY BACK AND
BLADDER MERIDIAN AND HEAD. SO I MUST
FEEL IT IS DOING SOMETHING. TOTAL TO DATE IS
2738.
THAT HOT RAG WORKS GREAT FOR ME. MUCK THE ICE . . ." Ray . Rayseal@aol.com
Well, at least the Bee Venom Therapy is doing something for him. I know how he feels, unsure - but like he says, somewhere inside he feels that it is doing some good. I'm sure that it is and I wish him all the best and continued relief. My feeling about steroids is that the doctors just give too much of it. But what do I know - I'm not a doctor.
Day 537 - 7:10pm - Oct. 23, 1998 EST
Stung 8x this morning on my legs and feet.
Started and stung 1x on either thigh. Then, 1x on the back of each calve. Then, 1x on the crease of each foot and 1x above each large toe. And then I ran out of bees in my mayonaise jar.
The stings have been good although I'm still missing the swiming. Going into that cool, cool pond and exercsising always feels great.
Lots of things going on in regard to theories regarding the causes of MS. The latest is that a Herpoes virus may be the culprit - or at least partially so. If you haven't read about it yet, you may want to check it out here: ABC News Report
So, I gave Dr. Jim a call and have set up an appointment for next week to see whether indeed I have this virus and whether or not there are some basic mediactions I can take to control it. It's worth a try. Of course, I'm not giving up on the Bee Venom Therapy. It's just that I'm not leaving any stone unturned on my journey back to wholeness..
On this note, my cyber-friend John sent me this letter in response to the above article: John writes:
". . . Why didn't I put together
the idea that the stuff that cures/manages that
girl on the radio ad's herpes could
supress (maybe) HHV6? The net has
mentionrd it enough that I was
very suspicious but nearly everyone has it.
OK, we were more suseptable somehow.
If they are right, and I think they
may be, not only will they be able
to arrest this blight but they willbe
able to develope a vacine for our
kids. I have been on a high all day.
I am convinced that if this can
arrest the relentless nibbling of our
myelin, the venom and acupuncture
will start restoring function. I am going
to hike that Ozark trail yet!
Further I am realighning my venom
sites with some sucess. Rather than
concentrate on the acupuncture
sites where I have lost gross motor skills,
I am drilling the main muscle mass
that controls the function like the ham
for instance. In those cases this
is working better for me. It is sort of a
modification of the Sam Farrell
technique of drilling along nerve lines.
Since Judy is Girl Scouting until
Sunday I was planning to discuss this
with Sam tomorrow when I ask him
to do my stinging. I rather expect that we
will talk about the HHV6 also.
I think our luck is changing, . . " John Brackman <jbrackman@fidnet.com>
Once again, my good cyber-friend John makes a lot of sense. Reasons to celebrate but our battle isn't over. Regardless as to what all this is about - there's is still much to do. And as we persevere and continue on our journey back to wholeness, Bee Venom Therapy is at the forefront of the field.
Day 540 - 4:22pm - Oct. 26, 1998 EST
Stung 16x this morning on my back, hips, thighs, calves and feet.
Started and stung 1x on either side of the spine - approx, 8" from spine. Then, 1x on either hip. Then 1x on the inside of each thigh and 1x on the inside of each knee. Then stung 1x on the inside of each calve and finally 2x on each foot - 1x on the outside center and 1x on the inside center - two new places I'd never stung before.
The weather continues to fluctuate up and down but have been feeling pretty good. Went out to my friend Rob's place to get my hair cut - requires a bit of "schlepping" in and out. Always feels good to continue to "be able" to do and walk- albeit small distances and holding on for support.
My dear cyber-buddy Fred from Arizona who'd undergone Electro-magnetic treatment in Mexico for 4 weeks in September writes with this news. Fred writes:
". . . I've been working hard on
this rehab.which seems like a career,but as
long as things continue to improve
I'm not complaining.
Today I went off and left my cane
at home and didn't even realize it
till I was ready to get out of
the pool.
Perhaps this is a good sign.
When I spoke to the inventor of
the machine,he said the pool was about
eighty five percent of the rehab. As
you know one is able to do so much
more in the water and being cool
is even better.
So that's what I really concentrate
on.That and walking.
I don't know what to tell some
one that does not have a pool.It really
is a necessary toll for recovery..
. .
I find myself feeling good and
think I can do things that I was able to
do years ago but soon I find out
it's to soon.I must pace myself and
know my limits.
Some of the improvements like the
bladder control at night and the jumpy
legs have been years since I've
experienced that control.Especially this
long of period of time.I could
go for a day or two sometimes but it's
been over a month and counting.
I'm feeling a little slow today.There
has been a drastic change in the
weather with more humidity in the
air which might explain the way I
feel. . . Keep stinging and feel
good my friend.. . .
I await for more positive things
to happen.
Fred Soly <fsoly@ssvec.org>
What a great letter from a great cyber friend. Fred had been a committed stinger for years and when he had experienced exacerbations he'd given this Electro-magnetic Treatment a try. And it really seems to be working for him. This is wonderful! I know what he means about the swimming and he is blessed to have a pool. I'm hoping and praying that he gets better and better.Fred is a really inspirational man - who is determined to "beat this thing".
Talking about determined people, my heart and prayers are going out to another cyber-chum of mine, Ray. He is going into the hospital today to undergo that heavy duty Mehotrexate Therapy and will be hospitalized for a week. It is very experimental but Ray - also a committed stinger who continued to sting up until his going into the hospital - has really been exacerbating heavy and is desperate for some real improvement. The Bee Venom Therapy he feels has helped, some, but he wants and needs more. There have been folks who have experienced some very dramatic results from this treatment and I will keep in touch with Ray to see just how he does. In the meanwhile, God bless you Ray! Get home soon.
That's the thing about this "dis-ease". Different things work for different folks at different times. That's why we must all do whatever we can with what there is. Perhaps if I had a pool and was in a position to swim more I would take a stab at this Mexican treatment. But meanwhile, the Bee Venom Therapy is holding this "dis-ease" at bay. And for this, I am blessed because it is here and now and affordable. This Thursday I'll meet with Dr. Jim to discuss the Herpes thing - and perhaps pursue that - along with the bees. Anyway, I'll probably postpone my Wednesday session to Thursday morning. I'll need the extra "oomph" to journey into his office.
Day 543 - 5:33pm - Oct. 29, 1998 EST
Stung 18x thus morning on my back, buttocks, thighs, calves, knees and feet.
Started and stung 4x on my back - approx. 6" from spine - on either side. Then, 1x on each buttock. Then, 1x on the outside of each thigh and 1x on the outside of each knee and 1x behind each calve. Finally, stung 2x on each foot - 1x on the outside and 1x on the inside.
Had my appointment with Dr. Jim this morning as well. Had the energy to "schlepp" up and in and out and that is always heartenimg. We discussed the Herpes Virus 6 idea and decided that the first thing to do was take a special blood test that can determine whether or not I indeed have the virus and perhaps how much. I'm not sure whether it can be determined if it is actually active. Anyway, this is a "big deal" blood test. A special vial needs to be sent to Dr. Jim's clinic and once it's sent out it will take about 2 weeks for the results. So - first thing first.
Those stings on my legs and especially on my feet that I'd done on Monday were really terrific. For the first time in weeks my toes weren't curling when I wanted to get up and go. I don't know if it was the particular location on the sides of the feet or just that it was a new spot I'd never before stung. In general when i sting a new place the results are very positive.
Now, here's a letter from the Beelady of Waldorf author of "How Well Are You Willing to Bee" - the how-to manual for anyone wanting to start on this Bee Venom Therapy treatment. Pat Wagner, offering some good advice - and then some, writes:
"We've been fighting this thing
for a long time now. I just started takig
granular bee pollen every few hours
(up to 1/2 tablespoon at a time) and I
feel much, much better. I was eating
fruits and vegetables, putting pollen
on them too. I don't eat meat.
For protein, use beans or rice or
mushrooms. Pollen has every vitamin,
mineral, enzyme, co-enzyme, etc, that
is on the earth! I would suggest
supplementing it with 2-6,000 units of
vitamin C and 100 mgs. each of
B2 and B6 every day. Us 'sickos' need to
get our bodies back to proper working
order. Later I can tell you about
the herbs I'm taking for specific
things lke clearing thoses sting spots
and like for energy! Be sure to
use apitherapy (all the hive products) and
not just BVT. Royal jelly is vitally
important, but don't forget the
pollen. I can't tell you how good
it is. Keep on keeping on, Berry.
You're doing a good thing. Till
next time, bee well!
Apitherapy yours,
Pat Wagner

E-MAIL: beelady@olg.com
WEB PAGE: www.olg.com/beelady
Well, I for one have started to take more of that bee pollen all through the day. I have been feeling pretty good so I'll keep taking it and see where it goes. Also, note Pat's new WebPage. You can purchase her book from the website and much, much more. I will be adding her page to my list of links at the bottom of this page. Pat has been doing this, with great results, for a very long time. So no doubt whatever information she offers at her site is well worth reviewing. Check it out. There's lots of good stuff over there.
Finally, I'd gotten a call from some fellow who is working on a documentary film about Bee Venom Therapy. He wants to interview me and shoot some bee stinging. This may happen on Tuesday and if it does I will postpone my Monday sting session until Tuesday.
Day 548 - 5:13pm - Nov. 3, 1998 EST
Stung 14x this afternoon on my calves, feet, arms and hands.
Started and stung 1x on the back of either calve. Then, stung 3x on each oot - 1x just above the large toe, 1x just above the small toe and 1x on the outside of each foot. Then, 1x behind each bicep. 1x on each forearm and finally 1x on each hand - between the thumb and index finger.
The two guys from Ithica College, Ryan and Josh, came by today to shoot their documentary. Very nice and intelligent fellows who know what they are doing. They spent several hours here and did an awful lot of shooting - interview session, bee stinging , the hives, the pond - really covered themselves well. Having spent many years doing this for a living myself, I was impresseed with their professionalism and know-how. They will also be shooting Pat Wagner, Charles Mraz and various doctors over the next several months so it should prove to be an interesting film.
Well, in that I've postponed Monday's session to Tuesday, I will not sting again tomorrow and will sting again on Friday. Perhaps stinging only twice a week is enough. Maybe - maybe not. It depend on how I feel. They say that after 6 months to sting on an "as needed" basis. Well, I'm still trying to figure out what that means - because I need it all the time.
Day 551 - 4:13pm - Nov. 6, 1998 EST
Stung 18x this morning on my back, hips, thighs, knees, calves and feet.
Started and stung 4x on my back - 2x on each side - approx. 6" from spine. Then, 1x on each hip. Then, 2x on the outside of each thigh. Then, 1x on the outside of each knee and 1x on each calve. Then. 2x on each foot - 1x on the out-side and 1x just above the small toe.
Felt good to do an "entire body" sting this morning. Had sort of held back a bit on Tuesday because I felt a bit uncomfortable about "baring all" and getting stung on camera. But once again, after this morning's session I felt real good and energized - good enough to just want to stand up and "schlepp" about the house.
Lots of people have written and asked about when and where the video would be available. Don't really know but it will be several months before it's complete, I'm sure. It wasn't a news report but a documentary film about Bee Venom Therapy. When I learn more I will pass it on.
Now, here's an e-mail from Marlo. She asks the same thing as many others. Marlo writes:
".. . Hope all is going well for
you! I am doing ok....but I am in a funk, at
present, because I don't seem to
be making any progress as I was earlier when
I began stinging. I have been stinging
about 100 days now....am I getting too
anxious? . . . " Marlo100@aol.com
Too anxious? Never! But yes, I know how Marlo feels. The thing to keep in mind though, is that everybody re-acts differently. But the main thing is to "keep on keeping on" because if the Bee Venom Therapy keeps this "dis-ease" from getting worse - isn't this better. Unfortunately too many folks stop too soon before realizing the true benefit and only after stopping - do they realize that perhaps it would have been better to keep stinging. All I know is after I'd stung this morning I was able to stand and "schlepp" better than I had all week. So I want to support Marlo in all that she's doing. It requires a strong conviction - but in the end I think it pays off.
Day 554 - 7:16pm - Nov. 9, 1998 EST
Stung 12x this morning on my back, legs and feet.
Started and stung 3x on either side of my back - approx. 2" from the spine. Then, 1x on each shin, 2x on each foot - 1x on the crease and 1x just above the small toe.
The stings on Friday were good. Especially the stings I've been getting on my feet. My toes seem to be cramping and curling much less than they had been. This is great because when the toes cramp it gets really hard to "schlepp".
Had dinner this past Sarurday night with a bunch of artists - some friends, some new - down the road to discuss ideas for setting up our hamlet, Historical Gilbertsville, as a retreat where folks can come and participate in workshops with the multitude of local - and some well known - artists. This is indeed an artist community filled with potters, painters, printers, quilters, papermakers and much more. It's a big project - long term - but it will happen. And for this I am grateful.
Barry
.
Day 556 - 6:26pm - Nov. 11, 1998 EST
Stung 12x this morning on my sides, thighs, knees, calves and feet.
Started and stung 1x on each of my sides. Then, 1x on each thigh and 1x on each knee. Then, 1x on the inside of each calve and finally 1x on the inside of each foot.
Had gotten up early to sting - had a dentist appointment. The stinging always gives me the energy to get up and out. Did some root canal work and of course that will take a lot out of you. But, did pretty well. Had the "oomph" to "schlepp" in and out of the dentist office and that's great. That's part of what it's all about.
My cyber-friend Ray has had his Methotrexate treatment - it's been about a month. Ray writes:
". . . MTX TREATMENT DID NOTHING. BUMMER. MAYBE
EVEN A LITTLE WORSE. VERY SUBTLE
CHANGES. SE LA VI. AT LEAST I CAN SEE, DEFECATE,
URINATE, SWALLOW, ETC. SAW
DOCTOR YESTERDAY AND HIS RECOMMENDATION IS AS
WE HAVE SEEN NO POSITIVE
RESPONSE, NOT TO DO IT AGAIN. . . " Rayseal@aol.com
It's unfortunate that this treatment didn't help Ray any - but that's the thing about this "dis-ease". It's always different for different people. But I know that Ray has been a committed stinger for a long time and I wouldn't be surprised if he got back to it. Maybe. I'm not against anything and I really have an enormous amount of respect for Ray. He refuses to leave any stone unturned on his journey back to health. And God willing, he will get there - soon!. He certainly is one of the most determined men I've ever known.
I know that for me, I still feel that this Bee Venom Therapy keeps my condition under control - besides the energy boosts it gives me after being stung. But still, it's a tough regimen to stay with and follow. I guess you'd say one must be desperate. But I'm not complaining. Because it's working.
Day 558 - 6:13pm - Nov. 13, 1998 EST
Stung 16x this morning on my sides, hips, legs and feet.
Started just below my armpits and stung 3x down the sides. Then, 1x on each hip. Then, 1x on the outside of each thigh and 1x on the outside of each kneecap and calve. Finally, 1x on the outside of each foot - just below the small toe.
The stings on Wednsday were good and I must continue to push ahead and do as much exercise and "schlepping" around - especially now that I'm not swimming as I had been through the summer.
Also, the "massage" I had started getting once a week from Coleen is beginning to manifest itself more into physical therapy sessions. Coleen will be here tomorrow morning and I've begun to do push-ups and leg exercises again - a little anyway. She's very helpful in helping me to raise my legs where I can't do it alone. She also holds my legs firmly in place so I can do push-ups. This is all good and I must think of more ways of taking advantage of her working with me.
Here's an article that was sent to me by Judy and Donna M. entitled The Healing Power of Bees. I had mixed feelings about it - at least about the people they interviewed - most certainly were ready to "throw the baby out with the bathwater. They wanted major miracles and when that didn't happen they figured they'd wait. Well, I'm not waiting!
Day 561 - 4:11pm - Nov. 16, 1998 EST
Stung 18x this morning on my entire body.
Started and stung 3x on either side of the back - approx. 2" from spine. Then, 1x on each side of the lower back - approx. 6" from spine. Then, 1x on either side of the neck, just below the skull cap. Then, 1x on the inside of each knee and 1x on the front of each thigh and 1x atop each foot - on the top-center. Then, 1x on the outside of each elbow and finally 1x on each hand - between the thumb and index finger.
Had a pretty good weekend - had plenty of energy to get around. Went to my children's school play "Wizard of Oz" on Saturday night used the electric scooter but once again - it's the bee stings that continue to give me the strength to be involved with life. And that's what it's all about.
Here's a letter from Donna who is extremely supportive of her husband Mike who is dealing with MS. Donna writes:
". . .We have been reading your
journal with much interest. My husband Mike has
been diagnosed with progressive
MS. The only treatment we have been doing
is BVT. Mike has had over 1800
stings thus far. He seems to parallel you
not only in the symptoms of the
disease but also your experience with BVT. . . .
Mike follows the book from Pat Wagner
somewhat. He stings mainly on his
spine, shoulders, elbows, wrist,
back calves, knee area and ankles. I noted
that you try different areas so
yesterday when I stung Mike I move a few
inches from the normal spots that
I sting. Mike still doesn't want to try
any other areas at this time -
he doesn't do his front torso or head.
Yesterday he had 16 stings and
as usual began to slow down after 2 or 3
hours. His walking was very difficult
and he was also fatigued. It is
frustrating as the stings are so
painful as you know. But it does give him
a sense of well being and he has
not had any illness such as fevers, cold or
flu since we started.
. . . We are new to the internet
- if you get time
please let us know if you received
this message. . . Donna & Mike <sweetwaterberryfarm@sierratel.com>
Sounds like Mike and Donna are doing pretty well and still discovering new and different things about stinging. For me, I find that whenever I sting new areas or places I haven't stung in a while - I really get a boost. Also, no doubt the Bee Venom Therapy keeps your immune system "tweaked". Matter of fact, after my last visit to the dentist he remarked that over the past year my teeth and gums were better than he'd ever seen them. He was really surprised. So was I.
But Mike is doing the Bee Venom Therapy and I can see that he and Donna are really committed to the treatment. And I support them in every way. Because that's the real secret to its success. Keeping on, keeping on.
Day 563 - 5:28pm - Nov. 18, 1998 EST
Stung 14x this morning on my sides, calves and feet.
Started and stung 4x down either side - from beneath the armpit to the hip. Then, 1x on the back of each calve. Then, 2x on each foot. 1x above the big toe and 1x on the outside and behind each ankle bone.
Those stings all over my body on Monday were really good - really had me feeling up. For a good number of hours after the session my balance was there and the strength in my legs were there too. I realized that when I haven't stung and I stand up, I have to use the strength from my upper body to push up off a chair. But after stinging, I am able to get up and move easier because I am able to use the muscles in my thighs and calves as well. That's one way in which the bee venom works - on my body - immediately after getting stung. The other part of it is the "long-term" affects of keeping that venom in my system
Again, none of this is scientifically proven. It is my personal experience. I'm not a doctor - just another guy dealing with this "dis-ease" and doing what I can with what there is.And when I get stung - something happens. But everyone has to decide for themselves whether or not it's worth the time, effort and stings. For me, it is. But that doesn't mean that other therapies and treatments don't work. This is a very individualized kind of "dis-ease" and different things work for different folks.
On that note I just want to mention that I am always adding and collecting more and more titles about health and healing and on bees on the Books That Compliment the Healing Process link on the bottom of this page. I really believe that knowledge is power and the best and most effective way of attaining knowledge is by reading.
Day 565 - 7:26pm - Nov. 20, 1998 EST
Stung 16x this morning on my buttocks, legs, feet and hands.
Started and stung 1x on the outside of each buttock. Then, 1x on the outside of each thigh and 1x on the outside of each knee and 1x on each calve and 1x on the outside & just above each ankle and 1x on the outside of each foot and again above the small toe. Finally, 1x on each hand - between thumb and index finger.
Missed stinging more of my legs on Wednesday. Hadn't stung the knees and thighs and could really feel the difference. So this morning I "went to town" stinging my legs. Some folks just sting the back but it's important to sting the entire body - to keep the whole of the body in "tune". This MS thing is a "total"body disorder.
My good friend Roland - an iron artist - had a friend of his visit from France this week. She in turn has a close friend in her country who is a healer. She told me that the healer needs only a photo of me and the medicine I take to try and work a healing miracle for me. So, she has taken my picture - and a bee - back with her to France and, with that, the healer will put me in his prayers. Am I clutching at straws? No. I'm just not leaving any stone unturned on my journey back to wholeness.
But what does it mean to be healed? Especially by a "healer"? My feeling is that God can do no more "for" me than he can "through" me. I must be open, receptive - raedy to be healed. As the Quaker's say, "When you pray, move your feet!" So I must do all that I can - for myself - and then, God willing, anything is possible.
Day 568 - 5:46pm - Nov. 23, 1998 EST
Stung 16x this morning on my back, thighs, calves and feet.
Started and stung 4x on either side of the back - approx. 8" from spine. Then, 1x on each hip. Then, 1x on the front of each thigh and 1x on the back of each calve. Finally, 1x atop each foot - just above the small toe.
The sings on the legs and feet were good but once again I tend to feel that stinging the torso - at least partially like on the sides - along with the legs is even more benificial. That is, for that over-all sense of strength and energy.
Here is a letter I received from a fine cyber-friend and committed stinger. Donna M writes:
". . . I am sending this letter to you to request some help from you. At the bottom of this letter you will find a link to a message board [BVT Support]. This board is for BVT support. There are several of us that go to the board but, we would like to see more people come in to post messages. If things don't pick up at this site it may have to be closed down. This is a good place to ask questions and to share experiences about BVT. We have had postings about BVT and Flu shots and the use of steroids and BVT. We have even had some information shared about how to care for our bees. Would you please include a link to this site on your journal to help us keep it alive and to let others know that it is available. It has been a very helpful site for me and a good place to just correspond with others that are doing BVT. Your help would be greatly apprecaited. We thought it would be great to see a link for this site on your journal. Thankyou for your consideration of our request . . ". Donna Marty <sixlegs@onramp113.org>
http://pluto.beseen.com/boardroom/b/18675
I went ahead and checked out the site. There are some real committed folks over there who have been doing what they can to keep an on-going group of people - interested in Bee Venom Therapy - together. They are doing all they can with what they've got - and they want very much to share with others. This is very admiral because - as you know - support is so key in dealing with this "dis-ease" in general - and with Bee Venom Therapy in particular. Perhaps drop by the site, post a message, answer a question or share a thought. You never know how meaningful what you have to offer is, to others. You do make a difference - or at least you can. An idea, a comment or a line of support. The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.
Finally, because of the Thanksgiving week, I may postpone my Wed. session to Thursday.
Day 571 - 3:22pm - Nov. 26, 1998 EST
Stung 15x this morning on my shoulders, back, thighs, calves, feet and belly.
Started and stung 1x atop each shoulder. Then, 1x on either side of the back just below the shoulder. Then, 2x on the inside of each thigh and 1x on the inside of each knee. Then, 1x on the inside of each calve and 1x on the inside of each foot. And finally, 1x just below the belly button.
Still like stinging the entire body - a little here, a little there. Seems to give my whole body a "boost". Funny, just before I begin the sting session I say to myself, "Oh, do I want to do this?" Even after all this time! But inevitably, right after the session I say, "Man that was good. Makes me feel goood!"
Having a good day today with the family. Yesterday, Carol, my wife, and 2 children went off to Binghampton (the big city) to do some shopping. It's Carol's birthday next week and it's always important to let her know how much I love her. Had to use the electric scooter - way too much walking without it - but again, had the energy to do it. To take the kids, look, shop in and out - it's a lot of work- even if one isn't dealing with this "dis-ease". Again, I feel that it's the Bee Venom Therapy that keeps me in a status- quo position - to keep moving and doing things. I'm not walking around as I would like - no - but I'm alive and I'm into life. This is a blessing. And for this I am thankful.
Day 575 - 6:34pm - Nov. 30, 1998 EST
Stung 16x this morning on my sides, thighs, knees, claves and ankles.
Started and stung 3x down either side. Then, 2x on the outside of each thigh and 1x on the outside of each knee. Then, 1x on the outside of each calve and finally 1x on the outside of each ankle.
Had a good holiday and spent great quality time with the family. Had stung on Thursday and decided to wait again until today to sting again. And it was okay. Didn't miss it anymore after a 2 day rest period than a 3 day. Perhaps I will begin to sting every 3 days. Must keep it in my system and use the venom and stings to pump me up and keep me up. Perhaps do sting sessions on Mondays and Thursdays. We'll see. I suppose it will depend on how I feel come Wednesday.
Also, I just found out that Ferris - a place to order bees by mail - has an on-line site. I have never ordered from them - yet - but have heard nothing but great things about them. I will be adeding their site to my links at the bottom of this page.We plan to visit family in Tenn. over Christmas and I think I will have Ferris deliver bees to me directly there.
Day 578 - 4:54pm - Dec. 3, 1998 EST
Stung 18x this morning on my sides, chest, thighs, knees, shins and feet.
Started below my armpits and stung 3x down each side. Then, stung 2x on the front of each thigh. Then, 1x on the front of each kneecap and 1x on each shin. Then, 1x above each large toe and finally 1x on each side of the chest - about 3" from the crease of the armpit.
I'd decided to postpone Wed.'s session another day. Seems like over the past few days I've been battling a chest cold. I don't have one - but I can feel something going on down there. So I'm hoping that the stings keep my immune system up.
Had received a response from the healer in France who had spent the entire weekend in prayer for me. Wow! He says that the Bee VenomTherapy is a good thing to do . . . but the 10mg's of Baclofen that I've been taking is "doing me more harm than good." Whew! Well, I don't know. I kinda' feel as though the Baclofen helps with the tightness and stiffness. But he's recommended two Homeopathic medicines Plantago and Eupatorium - 1 pill 3 times a day. I will get it and try it and will cut down on the baclofen - maybe 1/2 a pill 2x a day. See what happens.
There's just so much to try, so many roads to travel and explore. All I can do is - do what I can, experiment with what I feel may be true and helpful. If it does something - great - if not, not. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. But to date, the biggest "bang for my buck" and the most helpful on a day in day out out basis, has been the Bee Venom Therapy.
Finally, I'm also going to include the BVT Support On-line as a permenant link at the bottom of this page. The folks there are doing some important work in helping and supporting others.
Day 582 - 5:05pm - Dec. 7, 1998 EST
Stung 8x this morning on my shoulders, back and hands.
Stung 1x atop each shoulder. Then, 2x on either sider on the back and finally 1x atop each forearm.
Decided to vary the number of stings today - for no other reason than I feel it is important not to allow the body to become too accostumed to any part of the Bee Venom Thearpy.
Felt good over the weekend and seem to be holding off any kind of a cold - so far - although still feeling a bit congested. Coleen, the physical therapist, was here on Saturday. It was good to be able to move and stretch and exercise my legs more - with her assistance. Coleen says I'm doing better but I suspect it simply has to do with the particular day, hour and minute. Every day is different but I do believe that the Bee Venom Therapy - overall - keeps my condition in a status-quo state.
It's always important to move those stings around. Here's
a letter from my cyber-friend Judy who moved hers around. Judy write:
". . . I tried your sting site under
the arm pits - down both sides of
the body and it was FABULOUS! In
the past mpnth I've developed a slump -
losinig back strength. Well, these
side stings brought strength back to my
back about a thousand times better
than the back stings. I feel so good!
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!
Judy. JAlva76117@aol.com
Well, this is great and I know what she means. Stinging down my sides really gives my whole body a "boost" - can feel it tingle all over and wake up. Don't know if my next session will be on Wed. or Thursday.
Day 585 - 6:47pm - Dec. 10, 1998 EST
Stung 16x this morning on my back, sides, thighs, legs and feet.
Started and stung 3x down either side of the back. Then, 1x on each hip. Then, 2x on the front of each thigh. Then, 1x on the inside of each knee. Then, 1x on the inside of each calve. Finally, 2x on each foot - 1x on the inside, side of the foot, and 1x atop each small toe.
It felt good today to sting a bit more after holding back last session with only 8 stings. Switching off the number and areas of the stings seems to always make a difference. I'd been feeling tight this morning and I'm feeling much looser this afternoon. Quite a difference..
My good friend David who stings for arthritis pain in his joints at least 2x a week and swears by it, came by this morning to fill up his "bee hotel" with bees from our hives. Small and simple, his "bee hotel" is pretty neat and he says it keeps his bees alive for months at a time. He has one hive on his property but now, in the colder waether, he seems to find it impossible to coax any out. So, what are friends for? Anyway, he was nice enough to fill up a jarful of bees for me as well so that my session this morning was with very "fresh" and lively bees. And the bees seemed to have more of a "sting" and the areas swelled more than usual too.
The family is getting things ready to head down south next week to visit my in-laws for Christmas. We'll be driving and will do it in 2 days - stopping over in a hotel. I've already called Ferris and ordered bees to be delivered the week of the 21st and I must say they were extremely pleasant and made the entire ordering process very simple. Matter of fact, they will ship the bees and will include an envelope for me to use for return payment. Very nice. It'll be the first time I'll be stinging with bees other than my own.
Have an appointment next Tuesday with Rob - haircut - so may postpone next sting session to then.
Day 590 - 5:37pm - Dec. 15, 1998 EST
Stung 18 this morning on my sides, hip, thighs, knees, calves and feet.
Started and stung 3x down either side. Then, 1x on each hip. Then, 2x on the front of each thigh. Then, 1x on the outside of each kneecap and 1x on the back of each calve. Finally, 2x on each foot - 1x above the large toe and 1x on the inside of each foot.
Went to get my haircut today at my friend Rob. Yes, "schlepped" in and did what I had to do. And Rob of course did what he does best. Great haircut.
Well, this will be my last journal entry until after I return from visiting family in Knoxville, Tenn. We'll be leaving in a few days and will be returning after New Years.
Meanwhile, a great place to go and to share your thoughts and feelings with others is at the BVT Support On-line site. Very caring folks there and a great place to go and share feelings and ideas.
All the best and wishing everyone a happy and healthy holiday season. God bless.
Day 610 - 6:27pm - Jan, 4, 1999 EST
Stung 8x this morning down either side. Had wanted to sting more - but the temperature here in upstate NY is in the single digits - and below - and Gavin was unable to coax any more bees out from the hives yesterday.
Well, the holiday season is over and we are all back home up north. Had a wonderful time and vacation with family in Knoxville, Tenn. The trip was not as difficult as I had thought it might be - but none-the-less, it was a challenge. Being out of my "normal" routine and away from home where I'm so used to moving about - eating, bathing, sleeping etc. - all those simple everyday things I and my wife, Carol) have made so accessible -even I begin to take it for granted.
But I did do it. At times I used a walker to go longer distances on unfamiliar terrain. The house we stayed in was definitely not accessible so I had to make do with placing lots of chairs around the house where I could stop, rest and use to lean on as I passed by.
Had ordered bees from Ferris and they arrived on time. However, they only lasted a week - so I had to go bee-less for the second week. It wasn't terrible. Per usual, I could always use some stings to get up and "schlep" but without them, just felt stiffer. I had the opportunity to see just what the bees actually do for me - and how I feel when I don't sting for a week or so. Not awful - just tighter and stiffer. Again, I feel very confiden that stinging on a long term basis - just keeping the venom in my body - does a lot to keep this "dis-ease" under control - without having to take other "heavy-duty" drugs. So, I keep at it. Perhaps I may begin to sting 2x a week rather than three - don't know - depends on how I'm feeling and what needs to be done on a day-in and day-out basis. But no doubt, continuing to sting is very important.
It's good to be back home.
Day 614 - 12:19pm - Jan, 8, 1999 EST
Stung 14x this morning on my buttocks, thighs, knees, calves and feet.
Started and stung 1x on the outside of each buttock. Then, 2x on the outside of each thigh and 1x on the outside of each knee and calve. Finally, 2x on each foot - 1x on the crease and 1x just above each small toe.
Well, the weather has sure stayed frigid and the bees are getting more difficult to get. But Katrina went out yesterday after school and brought back enough for today's session. Nice fresh, zippy bees and man - did they feel good.
Hadn't stung my legs in a few weeks and as they say "absence makes the heart grow fonder". They hurt, of course, but the resulting surge of energy is always well worth it. It's funny how you just tend to forget the wondrous energy of the bee venom between sessions. Then, you get stung and - for a few hours at least - you just feel looser - more fluid. I couldn't help but get up and move around the house. That's why I say, this therapy can only be good.
Here's a brief note from someone looking for some information.
Michael writes:
"My name is Michael Tomaszewski
I am interested in bee venom therapy I live in Toronto
Canada If You know anybody providing
it around Toronto please contact me
maciej@interlog.com
tel.416-532-8687 fax. 416-5323184 "
So you know what it's all about - we've all been there before. Michael wants to "get into it" but as we all know it's so strange and odd a thing to start on by yourself. Perhaps there are others nearby who can pitch in - or perhaps just some support and encouragement from others who've been in this same space. An admiral way to kick off the new year.
Day 618 - 11:44am - Jan, 12, 1999 EST
Stung 8x this morning on my calves and feet.
Started and stung 1x on each calve. Then, 1x on the crease of the foot and then 2x atop each foot. 1x above the large toe and 1x above the small toe.
Decided to hold off my stinging session till today - skip Monday - to see how it would go. Felt pretty good this weekend and since I'm not going out anywhere - no need to have those stings. To be sure, when I have to "be" somewhere, nothing gets me there faster than a sting session. Also, used the remainder of the bees in the jar and must get the kids out to fetch me more. But it is very cold and snowy today and hopefully it will clear up a bit tomorrow. Fortunatley, my energy level is up and doing the work I need to do on the computer - designing web sites - is not a chore - thanks to Bee Venom Therapy.
Here's an e-mail from Diane who's been stinging for a while. She's committed. Diane writes:
". . . I have been stinging for
m.s. for 16-1/2
months. I have seen many good results,
but my main problem--my legs, are
slow to respond. I talk to a girl
in New York--(deemg@webtv.net)who has
been stinging for 5 years, She
was paralyzed in her right side, I
believe she said, and blind in
her right eye, but since she has started
to sting, has regained all her
function !!!!! She is probably my biggest
support system right now.You could
e-mail her, if you want, she will be
glad to help you. I just have to
give this a chance,it's better than any
drug--poisons I have tried before.God's
best, . . .Diane
MUMMYBEE@webtv.net
(Diane Hostler)
What a nice and honest letter. Diane has started on this journey and she is determined to see it through. She's got a great attitude and that counts for so much. I know Diane wants very much to hear from, and correspond with, others who are also stinging. Talking and comparing notes with others is the best way to learn as much as you can about this therapy. After all, it is still considered experimental.
And I also know how she feels about her legs being slow to respond. But not to give up. Because if the Bee Venom Therapy keeps everything else about this "dis-ease" under control, this is a blessing.
Day 623 - 10:25am - Jan, 17, 1999 EST
Stung 10x this afternoon on my thighs, knees, calves and legs.
Started and stung 1x atop each thigh. Then, 1x on the outside of each knee. Then, 1x on each calve and 2x on each foot. 1x on the crease and 1x atop the large toe.
Well, this past week has been incredibley cold and snowy and icey and for the first time - in a long time - the kids were unable to coax any bees out from the hives. But alas, things have warned up a bit and I'm back in "beez"ness. Gavin was able to get 10 bees out from one of the hives and that was great. I'm sure I'll be able to get more out over the next few days. I can't tell you how wonderful it felt after not getting any for a week or so. Last night I had a dinner party to attend and with all the ice and snow it indeed was a chore "shlepping" in and out. But having stung my legs beforehand made a big difference. It always does - loosens things up and makes it so much more "do-able" - to move those feet.
Here's a very warm and positive letter from someone new
in cyber-space - that's been stinging for a while. Bob writes:
". . .Have been reading your journal
since getting webtv for Christmas. I,
too, am fighting ms with BVT. Started
in March of 1998. Living in the
eastern Catskills, my beekeeper
(Dick Johnson) knows your beekeeper.
You are certainly on the mark with
your comments about people in the bee
business. They are very helpful
people.
Your journal has been a view through
different eyes for me. Although I
am enjoying certain benefits mostly
in the areas of mental outlook, I
don't feel the burst of energy
you talk about so much. Wish I did.
Early on in the therapy I did have
intermittent spells of being able to
walk better, but nothing sustained
in that area. My balance is better,
I have increased sensation in my
hands and feet, so of course the actual
stings hurt worse now than in the
beginning. I have realy enjoyed
hearing from the other BVTers who
Email you. It seems to be helping so
many. Tends to keep hope alive.
Thanks again for your efforts.
We'll keep reading and stinging. . . " Bob
(As written by wife Kay, who does the typing and stinging) rob1mit9@webtv.net
(Robert Mitchell)
Sounds like Bob has the right attitude and it also sounds like Bob is fairly new on the internet. I have a feeling he hasn't had much correspondence with others who have been stinging as well. He certainly has persevered on his own - with the support of his wife Kay and his beekeeper - but no doubt Bob & Kay would love to hear from others with their own personal experiences. Support is what it's all about, right?
Day 626 - 3:45pm - Jan, 20, 1999 EST
Stung 21x this morning on my sides, hips, thighs, calves and feet,
Started and stung 3x down either side starting just below the armpits. Then, 1x on each hip and 2x on the outside of each calve. Then, 1x on the outside of each knee and 2x on each foot. !x above the large toe and 1x on the inside of each foot. Then, 1 bee escaped and I caught him in my hand and I got stung on the palm. Somewhere new,
Well, the weather has cleared up quite a bit and we are now in the upper 30's and lower 40's. that means securing bees out from the hives is much easier. Gavin, my 15 year old, went out yesterday and retrieved a good amount.
Been feeling pretty good and doing what I can to move around the house and keep as limber as possible. Certainly do miss those "lazy, hazy days of summer" and swimming in the pond. But that will come back around soon enough.
Here's a really nice letter from Rick and Carol. They write:
" . . . We have corresponded before,
but not for a while. Rick is still doing
stings - but has cut back to 10
at a time, 3 X a week. Seems to tolerate
these very well, and it keeps his
energy level up (although increasing
muscle spasms).
Just wanted you to know that we
have started our own Home Page, with a page
on BVT, and included a link to
your site on it. Hope you don't mind. Please
check it out and let us know. Be
aware, though, that we are just starting
out, and it is very much "under
construction".

Thanks for your support Rick & Carol Johnson Rick & Carol <rcj1@earthlink.net>
I went to their HomePage and it was really nice. You really get a wonderful sense of who and what they are all about - and a major part of their life is the Bee Venom Therapy. It is doing them a lot of good and you can just feel it. They are very sincere and intelligent people doing what they can with what they've got. Check out the site and share some thoughts and feelings with them. They are very genuine and "feel good" kind of people.
Day 629 - 4:53pm - Jan, 22, 1999 EST
Stung 14x this morning on my back, arms, elbows and neck.
Started and stung 4x down either side of the back - approx. 3" from the spine. Then, 1x on either side of the neck. Then, 1x on each upper arm and 1x on the outside of each elbow.
Interesting, stung 21x on Tuesday but didn't feel it to be any more beneficial than when I sting 10 or 15 stings. Perhaps I need to keep moving the stings around and not stay so focused on my thighs and legs and feet. But no doubt, the stings anywhere make me feel better than when I'm not stung at all. And in the short term, stinging my legs or feet always makes me feel lighter and looser - for at least 3 or 4 hours. So for that reason I am often stinging "below the belt". But I must always remind myself that this is a full body "dis-ease" and it's important to sting everywhere.
And on that note, I have to admit that stinging my neck really gave me a shot of energy this morning - to work and not feel tired at all. Those neck stings to it for me every time. It's just that they do hurt more than most other areas and I tend to want to "not think about it" and sting other areas. Well, I guess taht makes me "human".
Day 632 - 10:13pm - Jan, 26, 1999 EST
Stung 16x this morning on my sides, knees, chest and feet.
Started and stung 4x down either side. Then, 1x on either side of the torso just below the armpits. Then, 1x on the inside and 1x on the outside of each knee and finally 1x atop each foot.
Have been feeling pretty good and once again this morning I've tried to move the sting areas around. On the chest as well as the feet and knees - and deliberately skipping the thighs and calves. I think that when I don't sting the same areas over and over, when I do sting them my body responds more effectively to the sting on that part of the body.
Here's a letter from Judy who is looking for somehelp for a family member. Judy writse:
". . . I just read most of your diary about your BVT...I am a beekeepers wife here in the midwest. I was very interested in your daily accounts as to what you go through in this therapy. How have things progressed for you since you first started this diary?
A family member (husbands, grandmothers niece) has MS and I'm sure she has heard of BVT but I'm not sure if she knows all that is involved and therefore is not interested or enlightened on the subject.
If you can just give me an idea
if you still think this therapy is beneficial to you and others with MS...please
e.mail me with your comments..

Judy Swenson

Swenson Family" <beebiz@frontiernet.net>
Well, I wrote and told her what I have, and continue to get, from the Bee Venom Therapy. But I know that everyone has there own story and any one of them can strike just the right "cord". Perhaps drop Judy an e-mail and share with her what you have to offer and what Bee Venom Therapy is doing for you. After all, Judy is already a beekeeper and an e-mail to her may really change some lives. I can already tell that she is a special individual - caring enough and supportive enough to seek out the information. The rest is up to us.
Day 637 - 9:03am - Jan, 30, 1999 EST
Stung 14x this morning on my hips, thighs, knees, calves and feet.
Started and stung 1x on each hip. Then, 2x on the front of each thigh and 1x on the outside of each knee. Then, 1x on each calve and 2x on each foot - 1x on the crease and 1x on the top above the large toe.
Well, it had been a while since I'd stung the thighs and calves and once again I'm reminded how good and beneficial it is. My legs had been feeling tight and stiff most of the week - but this morning feels much looser.
Coleen, physical therapist, came by this morning as well and it felt good to stretch and move my body around in more ways than usual.
My friend Ray writes and tells me that a friend of his has invented an electro-magnetic machine which is supposed to be beneficial for "dis-ease's" like Parkinson's and MS. It is a less powerful machine than the one my friend Fred underwent therapy under in Mexico this past September.
Ray writes:
". . . THE EARTH HAS A FREQUENCY OF 8.3 HERTZ
(CYCLES PER SECOND). YOU LIGHT IS 60
HERTZ AND TV IS 15000 +/- MRI'S ARE VERY STRONG.
THIS DEVICE IS VERY VERY
MINIMAL. LIKE ON THE ORDER OF 8-20 HERTZ. WHEN
YOU WRAP A BATTERY WITH WIRE
AND CONNECT IT TO A BATTERY .... YOU MAKE AN
ELECTROMAGNET. ALSO WHEN YOU
PUT SOMETHING , IN THIS CASE MY BODY, YOU INDUCE
A CURRENT.
CORNELL, UNIVERSITY OF OK AND MS, AND SOMEOTHER
COLLEGE ARE STUDYING THIS.
THE RESULTS SO FAR ARE SPECTACULAR. JUST SITTING
IN A ROOM WITH A TV OR
COMPUTER OR LIGHT EXPOSES YOU TO FAR MORE EMF
THAN THIS MACHINE.
I WILL HAVE TO SIGN PAPERS AND BE A PARTICIPANT
IN THE FDA APPROVAL PROCESS.
THE WAY I UNDERSTAND IT IS IT IS SIMILAR TO THAT
THERATIC CLINIC, BUT MUCH
LESS POWERFUL, . . ." Ray Rayseal@aol.com
This machine will soon be delivered to Ray's home and I am hoping and praying that he sees some real positive results. Ray is a committed stinger and through it all Ray is continuing with Bee Venom Therapy. I'm real impressed with him - because he's not just sitting back, he's pushing ahead with all that he can with all that he has. As usual, I'll be keeping my eyes on Ray. He has always been a trail blazer.
Day 640 - 2:36pm - Feb. 2, 1999 EST
Stung 14x this morning on y shoulders. elbows. and sides.
Started and stung 1x atop each shoulder. Then, 1x below each shoulder blade. Then, 4x down either side to the waist. Finally, 1x on the outside of each elbow.
Have been feeling good - especially after stinging my lower limbs last Saturday. Must make mention of my session last Saturday morning with Coleen - physical therapist. It had been the first time that I had stung in the morning - at about 9:00am - and then right afterwards - about 10:am - had a physical therapy session. Anyway, I usually get up and walk into the bedroom holding onto Coleen's shoulder and she is always able to see right off just how I'm doing "at that moment". Coleen immediately said,"Wow, you're really doing great today!" - indicating how much more fluid I seemed and how much easier itr was moving my legs, feet and body - a "wider range of movement and motion". Anyway, it wasn't any surprise to me - although it was good to hear it from another person - not having mentioned to her that beforehand, indeed, I had had a sting session.
I know that after I sting - at least for a few hours afterwards - there is a major difference in how I feel and in what I am able to do. I can "schlepp" easier. I can raise my feet higher and clear the floor. Well, it was nice to hear it from Coleen. Bee Venem Therapy does make a difference.
Day 642 - 12:17pm - Feb. 4, 1999 EST
Stung 14x this morning on my sides, neck, hips and feet.
Started and stung 3x down each side. Then, 1x on each hip. Then, 1x on either side of the neck. Then, 1x on the torso - just below the crease of the armpit. Finally, 2x on each foot - 1x above the large toe and 1x on the inside - side - of each foot.
The stings on my sides and shoulders were so good last session I couldn't resist stinging that part of the body again. Also, I know that the more I move the stings around my entire body, the more effective are the stings. In other words, my body's reaction to the venom is heightened. But I did sting my feet - just couldn't resist that.
But man, those neck stings always do hurt & burn. I don't use any ice or anything because I'm really into just getting it done and over with as quickly as possible. And after all this time I've acclimated myself to the stings on my back, my sides and my legs. Matter of fact, during those first few seconds as I feel the bee's stinger piercing the skin - I have to admit - I welcome the sensation because I know that in a few minutes my body is going to be more awake and alive than it had been. But when it comes to those neck stings - ooo, it's always an eye-opener. They do burn. Yet, they're always worth it`.
Day 647 - 10:29am - Feb. 9, 1999 EST
Stung 16x this morning on my thighs, knees, calves, ankles and hands.
Started and stung 3x on the outside of each thigh. Then, 1x on the outside of each knee and 1x atop each kneecap. Then, 1x on each calve and 2x on the outside of each ankle - in front and behind each ankle bone. Finally, 1x on each hand between thumb and index finger.
I've been spreading out the the days between my sting-sessions, looking to see how my body reacts to this. There is no doubt that when I sting I feel good - and in this regard I suppose I could sting daily. But that would be too much and impractical - for indeed, there are other things to do in one's life other tahn be stung. But the question is whether my stinging every 2 days - or 3 or 4 days - makes a whole lot of difference in how I feel everyday - day in & day out. My over-all feeling is that it is important - critical - to keep a steady amount of bee venom in my body at all times. This I believe is what has kept this "dis-ease" from progressing. But after all this time of stinging 3x a week, perhaps 2x a week would accomplish the same results. Well, this is all still experimental - so I suppose I'll just continue experimenting.
Day 650 - 11:34am - Feb. 12, 1999 EST
Stung 16x this morning on my sides, shoulders, elbows, feet and calves.
Started and stung 3x down either side. Then, 2x on each shoulder - 1x in the front and 1x on the back. Then, 1x on the outside of each elbow. Then, 1x on the inside of each calve and 1x on the crease of each foot.
The weather here today is record-breaking warmth - about 60 degrees - so I'm up and out to enjoy it because it will be short-lived. It is supposed to drop 30 degrees tonight and snow - about 3" worth.
Have been feeling okay although a bit lazy. Could just be a function of life in general or perhaps my body is indeed missing those extra stinging sessions. I know when I do sting my energy is always up. Perhaps I will try some more bee pollen throughout the day as Pat Wagner suggests. And I plan to spend a lot of time outdoors today and I think that will pep me up as well. My spirits anyway. When it's icy and snowy out it's tough to get around. A day like today definitely has one dreaming about the summer and swimming in the pond. In time, in time.
Day 653 - 1:31pm - Feb. 15, 1999 EST
Stung. . . 8x this morning on my thighs and calves and feet.
Started and stung 2x on the front of each thigh. Then, 1x on each calve and 1x on the outside of each foot. Then, I ran out of bees in my mayonaise jar and Katrina, my 12 year old, promised to go fetch some more for me this afternoon. But 8 stings are enough. It's just important to keep that venom in my system. And I also feel that it's good to vary the amount of stings per session - so that your body just doesn't get too used to it.
The days outside were nice and the sun is still shining although there's snow on the ground once again. Very beautiful. My energy level is up and although I still feel tight and heavy in the legs I am still pushing forward. Of course, stinging the legs is always great.
I've been reading a lot about BVT and medicines lately. This e-mail was sent to me through a list-serve. Barbara writes:
. . . .First of all, I was losing
mobility to the disease which neither
the drugs nor the BVT seemed to
help or prevent. Obvious to me, drugs and
BVt together weren't gonna help...and,
believe me, I tried to make both
work as I was too afraid to let
go of ABC drugs for fear that i would go
into an immediate exacerbation.
Second, 2 other MS friends (one
for 35 years and the other 25
years) who use drugs are going
downhill fast as I write this and they won't
do bees because it's too scary
for them. Neither can move without help and
one of them can't hold a telly
to talk to me. How am I doin' here?... Got
ya' squirmin' some?
Third, when I saw my neuro last,
the first words out of my mouth:
"One of these days I'm gonna come
in here and you're gonna say,'can't do
anything for ya',sorry'". With
that he simply nodded a resounding assent
and I knew my decision to go with
the bees alone was no longer the "try
out" it had been but I'd become
a devoted BVT practitioner. I realized at
last that there's no safe place
to hang out,... you either win or ya' lose
-live or die. If I want to win
(live), I can't hang out (be safe)...I gotta
play hard and take chances. Just
accepting this has filled me with an
excitement and a confidence which
tells me how much I love living! . . ."

Pretty powerful letter from a very determined individual. And it got me to once again think about cutting down on the Baclofen. I am going to try and cut my Baclofen dosage in half. Rather than 10 mgs 2x a day (as soon as I awake and before bedtime) I will try 5mgs 2x a day. But unlike Barbara, I really don't feel that it is an either/or situation. I take the baclofen because without it I just get too tight. But that doesn't negate the great benifits of the Bee Venom. We're all doing what we can.
Still taking vitamins - 1000mgs Vitamin C, 400mgs Vitamin E. a magnesium & calcium tablet, a Multi vitamin & mineral, 1000 mgs vitamin B12 and a B6 tablet. Also, Bee propilis (pill) and spoonfuls of Bee pollen.
Day 656 - 9:33am - Feb. 18, 1999 EST
Stung 20x this morning on my back, hips, thighs, knees and calves.
Started and stung 5x down either side of my back approx. 4" from the spine. Then, 1x on either hip. Then, 2x on the outside of each thigh and 1x on the outside of each knee and 1x on each calve.
The stings on Monday were okay but just not enough. Definitely felt as though I could have used more. But again, the important thing is to keep a steady flow of venom in the system. When I sting more - and in targeted areas - it always makes a difference.
I'm trying to stay with the 5mgs 2x a day of the baclofen but I have to admit it isn't easy. I really feel a difference - especially when I haven't stung.I will give it a bit more of a try but I have the feeling I may not be able to swing it. Perhaps I'll try 10mgs in the morning and 5mgs at night.
Day 661 - 10:20am - Feb. 23, 1999 EST
Stung 16x this morning on my sides, thighs, knees, calves and feet.
Started and strung 3x down either side. Then, 1x on the front of each thigh. Then, 1x on the inside of each knee and 1x on the inside of each calve. then, 1x on the inside of each ankle and 1x on the inside - side - of each foot.
The weather here has really gotten cold - like below zero and it was hard to coax any bees out from the hives. But Katrina went out yesterday and brought back enough for today.
Have been feeling good although I do feel like a cold is coming on. Hopefully the bee venom will keep it at bay. My energy level has been up and my stiffness and tightness in my legs seem to be under control. But I have to say, I'm back to 10mgs of baclofen 2x a day.
Here is a link to a homepage that I came across yesterday and really liked.
BEE VENOM THERAPY FOR MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS
Rick, a committed stinger indeed, has a great attitude and is really into sharing how he feels about Bee Venom Therapy with others. And he does it in a personal and warm manner. His enthusiasm and sincerity comes across loud and clear. It's well worth a visit.
Day 664 - 11:37am - Feb. 26, 1999 EST
Stung 16x this morning on my thighs and legs, feet and elbows.
Started and stung 3x on the outside of each thigh. Then, 1x on the outside of each knee and 2x on the outside of each calve. Then, 1x on the top of each foot - above the large toe and finally 1x on the outside of each elbow.
Well, I'm thinking that the bee venom has certainly helped thwart this cold of mine - somewhat. It definitely hit me. . . but so far - knock on wood - it has centered only about my head, Not my chest. This is most important. So a good stinging session this morning and hopefully I'll be rid of all this by this weekend. I have a birthday coming up on Sunday and what fun will it be if I'm not "buzzing".
Those fellows who are shooting that documentary on Bee Venom Therapy will be coming back next Thursday to shoot some more material. They want to "flush" out the interview material with footage of "a day in our life". Should be interesting. Look forward to seeing the finished product. Most of my professional life, before web design, I had been a film and television produer in Manhattan. This will be the very first time I'll be "in front" of the camera.
Day 668 - 10:14am - March 2, 1999 EST
Stung 12x this morning on my shoulders and back.
Started and stung 1x on each shoulder. Then, 5x down either side of the back - approximately 1"-2" from the spine. Haven't stung that close to the spine in a while and those stings really did hurt. But I believe that it's important to move those stings around.
Well, have been feeling pretty good although I'm still a bit stuffy with a head cold. Taking lots of vitamin C and stinging in whatever appropriate areas might be effective although my feeling is that just keeping the venom in the system is the real secret. My cyber-friend John had written to remind me just where to sting for colds. John writes:
"If you are getting a cold, I would
make sure to sting the "three mile
point" as described in the book
on pressure points you once recommended to
me. The easy way to find it/them
is to place your palm on your kneecap and
it is where your ringfinger reaches
just outside your shinbone.. . ." John John

So I appreciate John's advice and stung that area last Friday. Main thing is that the cold has not spread into my chest and for this I am very grateful.
The weather is back to snow again today but over the weekend it was dry and relatively warm with lots of the hives very active. Gavin, my 15 year old, was able to go down and fetch quite a jarful of bees. Probably more than can survive in the jar. I've been giving some real thought to purchasing this "Bee Hotel" which many cyber-friends write and tell me about. Some say that they keep bees alive for over a month at a time. I wonder.
Day 671 - 9:32am - March 5, 1999 EST
Stung 16x this morning on my sides, back, hip, thighs legs, calves and feet.
Started and stung 1x on each hip. Then, 2x on the outside of each thigh and 2x on the outside of each calve. 1x atop each foot- above the large toe. Then, 1x on the sides of my back and 1x to the right and left sides of my tailbone. Had taken a little spill the other day and landed on my tailbone which is a little sore now. Thouht a couple of stings might help. Can't hurt.
That head cold seems to linger on although it is still centered only in my head. That's still important. But man, it just doesn't seem to want to go away. The snow has started to fall over the past few days again and it is quite beautiful. But yesterday's storm put the brakes on those fellows who were to videotape here yesterday. We had to cancel. Oh, well. They'll be back soon enough.
Regardless of the weather however, will have to brave the outdoors today and make it into town. It's Katrina's birthday on Sunday and I want to get her some gifts and cake and all the rest. She'll be 13 and it is a big day for her. And I'm determined to make the most of my children's childhood events - at least doing and being involved in whatever I am able. And whether the Bee Venom Therapy is making me walk better or not - it certainly gives me the energy to live life and be involved to the fullest. And this is what life is all about - really.
