Day2049 -Day 2242

Day 2049 4:33 p.m. - December 10, 2002

Stung 20x this morning over my entire body.

Started and stung 2x atop each thigh. Then, 1x on each calf. Then, 1x on the inside of each ankle and 1x atop the large toe. Then 1x atop each shoulder and 2x down each side and 1x on each hip and 1x on each buttock.

Hadn't stung in a couple of weeks and as usual as soon as I do I quickly realize and feel the difference.
Saw Dr. Karen for my semiannual checkup and overall I continue to hold my own although part and parcel of this "dis-ease" is to lose a little - bit by bit - over the course of time.

So, although bees and stinging does what it does for me by improving the quality of my life, it is not a cure, but the best I've been able to come up with to date. Therefore my ear is always to the ground and continue my quest to find what I can to ease and hopefully the same time, stem the onslaught of this that I have been forced to live with.

Several weeks ago an article regarding clinical trials for MS was brought to my attention. Scientists in South Carolina have been experimenting with the use of cholesterol controlling medication, medicines currently on the market.. Entitled, Cholesterol Drug Could Lead To New Therapy For Multiple Sclerosis I asked Karen to look it over - share her thoughts on whether or not it would be possible for me to give it a try.

So before we were through she took a blood test to see what my cholesterol level is. Regardless as to what it actually is though, I think I'm going to go for it. This does not mean that I wouldn't the continuing bee venom therapy - unless this really makes the BIG difference. Meanwhile, I will wait for the results of the test, keep on stinging and meet with Karen again after the holidays.

Day 2091 4:36 p.m. - Jan. 21, 2003

Stung 20x this morning on my thighs, back, shoulders, calves, feet, buttocks, arms and wrists.

Started and stung 2x atop each thigh and 1x on each calf. Then, 1x atop each shoulder, 2x across the top of the back and 3x down each side of the back. .Then, 1x on each upper arm and finally 1x on each wrist, palms down..

Well, I suppose I am back where I began last month.
Carol, my wife, and children spent the holidays in Knoxville Tennessee visiting with my in-laws and I didn't have access to any bees. And forget about the weather! 3 feet of snow that ain't melting in 5 below temps.

I had also thought that by the time I returned back home perhaps I would already have begun the Staten - the cholesterol drug like Zocor. - drug.
I'd already taken a blood test to check my cholesterol level. It is low. Dr Karen tells me that there really hasn't been any studies of people taking these medications whose cholesterol levels where normal - so what effects can they have on me? Trials for MS are going on now.
There are certain known possible negative side effects these drugs have on the liver so this must be monitored routinely.

Anyway, the bottom line is . . . I ordered bees from Ferris on-line and after stinging I really am feeling great. After having my first stinging session in over a month - I am a bee-liever! And regardless as to whatever I do bee venom therapy is still the best thing going - for me.

Day 2103 12:41 PM - Feb. 2, 2003 EST

Stung 16x this morning on my sides, legs, thighs, buttocks and neck.

Started and stung 2x on each side of my torso. Then, 2x atop each thigh & 1x on the inside. Then, 1x on each calf. Then, 1x on each buttock and 1x on each side of the neck.

This has been a very sad and reflective time for all of us. On January 20th my good friend Roy Colonna passed away. There's so much to say about Roy.

GILBERTSVILLE, N.Y.
Roy Colonna of Gilbertsville died peacefully early Monday morning, Jan. 20, 2003.

He was a fashion illustrator for Town and Country, Elizabeth Arden and Galey and Lord of New York City, then became a Dada artist who showed at Bodley Gallery before he moved to this area in 1974. Since then he has shown his drawings and paintings in Glimmerglass Gallery and other local galleries.

He is eighth don in Goju karate, ran a dojo in Oneonta and also taught karate and Tai Chi in Cooperstown.
Roy is a Devotee of Ramana Maharshi.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Nields Colonna; his son, John Schuyler Colonna; his daughter, Janine Elder; his son-in-law, Brian Elder; and grandsons, Gareth and Kieran Elder.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at 3 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Mount Upton.

Contributions in his honor may be made to the Gilbertsville Emergency Squad or Arunachala Ashram, 66-12 Clyde St., Rego Park, NY 11374.
Arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris....The Daily Star

A devastating car accident several years ago has transformed this ''bear'' of a man into a paraplegic. But although Roy paralyzed he spent his time growing as a human being and the two of us shared many hours reflecting on Life and Truth. He never gave up and did what he was able. - - I learned a lot about life and death and dying from this special individual and am eternally grateful for what insight he left for me to employ on my own journey through life and beyond.

Roy had given me a rare glimpse through his ''life's'' window . . into the loving relationship with his family. The pain and the frustrations of one who remained determined in his pursuit of a meaningful existence. Through it all he maintained his dignity, strength, courage and wit. He was a great inspiration for my own skewed existence. I will miss him greatly.

There were hundreds of mourners that came from everywhere.
The funeral was very "up" and quite a unique and different experience. From 3 PM in the afternoon at church - ending at about 11 PM in Elizabeth's pottery making barn - and enough catered food to feed an army. Roy was honored and remembered in great fashion.

Day 2115 4:541 PM - Feb. 14, 2003 EST

Stung 20x on February 7th. 2003

Stung my thighs, calves, hips, feet, buttocks and sides and hands.
Started and stung 2x atop each thigh. Then, 1x on each buttock and 1x on the inside of each knee. Then, 1x on each calf and 1x behind each ankle. Then, 1x on each hip and 2x on my back down each side - approx. 3" from the spine. Finally, 1x atop each forearm.

Stung 16x February 12th. 2003

Stung my thighs, knees, calves, feet, buttocks and hips.
Started and stung 2x atop each thigh. Then, 1x on the inside of each knee and 1x on each calf and 1x atop each foot - above the large toe. Then, 1x on each buttock and 2x on each hip.

The last several weeks have certainly been somewhat stressful and the bees and bee venom therapy has certainly been instrumental in keeping my physical body on a somewhat even keel. The rest of the "being" is left to rely on meditation and prayer.

The passing of my dear friend Roy has temporarily veiled my overall enthusiasm of life itself. And this is natural and normal because without experiencing sadness, loss and depression one would never truly appreciates the thrill and exultation of real joy, gratitude and happiness. The balance of life - positive and negative, good and bad, brightness and darkness. And with the constant beating on the drums of war around the world, this tenuous balance is never far from my consciousness.

Yes, how precariousness and haphazard is the hand of fate.

Still cold snowy and icy here. High of 10 degrees today.
Last week, Carol and Katrina were headed into town to see a theater production at one of the universities. A routine journey - a beautiful drive taken over the same country roads hundreds if not thousands of times in the past. But as Confucius says, "expect nothing, be prepared for everything!"

As Carol maneuvered the van through the hills the newly bought snow tires skidded on the ice and the vehicle took off on a course of its own. In a flash the van was out of control - swerving and heading itself off of the road - flipping and rolling several times down the snow covered hill. The good news is, thank God, neither Carol or Katrina were seriously injured although Katrina had multiple cuts on her hand which required some stitches. The Van was totally demolished but thanks to seatbelts and Katrina's defensive reaction of covering her face against the shattering window all is well.

How grateful I am

Finally, here's a letter from a woman who is looking to support her newly diagnosed friend in Australia. She writes!

''. . . I met a lovely lady a few months ago . . . and I discovered she had MS.
She is in her early thirties ( I am assuming ) I am not a close friend but a person who cares for others, so once I heard about her condition I offered my help to her last night.
I have started the research only tonight and have come across your website. She did mention to me that she was intending to do this type of treatment i.e. ( bee stings ) but that she was still doing the research.
She does not have access to the Internet so since I do , I thought I would go on as so many people have found such a wealth of information with other people in the world.

We are located in Australia. I immigrated last March and has yet am still forming new friendships but I cannot stop myself from reaching out and helping someone else in need.
Would you be able to give me or supply me with more info as to what type of treatment I can suggest to my new friend. . .

They are not people who have a lot of money but yet they are determined to do whatever it takes obviously. She was diagnosed with this condition 7 months ago. .. . '' Olinda Hume

Well, I sent an e-mail with information on where to find book knowledge on the subject of BVT. Here are two major factors of concern that Olinda should be made aware of;
1-The beautiful and wonderful thing about bee venom therapy is that expense is never an issue because there is no shortage of BEES in this world and this experimental therapy can be practiced anywhere by anyone. And
2- For some reason this therapy seems to have a better ratio of success with women.

But the truth is, what is really needed is support for Olinda's friend. Olinda is doing what she can and reaching out. So if you have had an experience with bee venom therapy either personally or as a supporter of a friend or loved one, perhaps take the time to send Olinda a few words of encouragement that she could perhaps pass on to her friend. Remember, what goes around comes around.

Day 2126 11:09 AM - Feb. 25, 2003 EST

Stung 20x yesterday morning on my my nech shoulders, back, hips, thighs, knees and ankles.

Started and stung 1x 1x atop each shoulder and 3x down the back. Then, 1x on each hip and 1 x on each buttock. Then, 1x on the outside of each thigh and knee and finally x on the inside of each ankle.

Once again I am reminded just how important it is to continue to sting on some sort of ongoing routine.
Getting the bees by mail from Ferris online certainly makes keeping up with this challenging but effective therapy regime much less of a hassle. Perhaps when thethe weather is warmer and there isn't as much snow and ice I'll see if I can get Katrina (she'll be 17 years old March 7th!) to get bees again from our own hives.
But something tells me that those days may be over.

Hopefully we will be able to secure a new van some time soon, - like next week. it looks like a Honda Odyssey is the order of the day. without an accessible vehicle, I am unable to take my scooter with me. This definitely cramps my style - especially with all the ice and snow. I'd say we had over two feet over the past week. It's pretty to look at but too hard to negotiate.

Now, here's a letter from a man in New York looking to do what he can for a family member. Eric writes;

" . . . Reading your journal with great interest. breakup of a one of aMy sister in law Lisa age 36 has had MS for 7 years. Uses a walker now with very little use of the legs. Steroids and heavy drugs not working well. Very interested in bee therapy. We live on Long Island in New York. This is first internet approach at info. Any help in the right direction would be appreciated. ''
Eric EJNJBRANDY@aol.com

I've written and given Eric as much information and suggested reading materials on and about bee venom therapy. But, without a doubt, he and his sister-in-law would benefit greatly from the personal experiences of others who are living the experience.
Perhaps if you are so inclined you might drop Eric an e-mail and offer more. Or just a note of support to let Eric and his sister-in-law know that they are not alone. Eric has shown hto stuff and has taken the first step to to do what he can for his sister-in-law. Why not share what you think might be beneficial.

Feb. 28th 2003
Stung 8x this afternoon on my sides, buttocks and hands.
Started and stung 2x down either side of my back and then 1x on each side of each buttock. Finally, 1x on atop each hand - palms down - above the middle finger.

March 5h 2003
Stung 18x this morning on my my shoulders, back, hips, thighs, knees and ankles.
Started and stung 1x atop each shoulder and 3x down the back. Then, 1x on each hip and 1 x on each buttock. Then, 1x on the outside of each thigh and knee and finally x on the inside of each ankle.

It's still pretty cold here and hopefully we should be bigger out of Iran (a Honda Odyssey) tomorrow! This is very exciting because I really have not been in a position to get around this past month. We will be reinstalling the electric screwless onto the back of the van and the power seats which makes it easier for me to get in and out of a the front seat.

This session today really felt wonderful. As soon as Carol removed the stingers and I took a nice hot shower (well, not too hot) I was ready for work on the computer. This of course is nothing new. Whenever I sting- certainly an amount like 18x - I'm always energized and ready to work. Most beneficial of this type of session is having a clear head and not feeling fatigued or lazy.

Day 2139 March. 10, 2003 9:04 AM EST -

Stung 20x thus morning on my back, buttocks, thighs, calves, and arms.
Started and stung 6x on my back - approx. 10" from the spine - 3x on either side. Then, 1x on each buttock. Then, 1x atop of each thigh and 1x behind each calve. Finally, stung 2x on each arm - 1x on the bicep and 1x on the top of the wrists.

I was very fortunate to have Katrina (my 17-year-old) sting me with the remaining bees that I had received from Farris last week. This arrangement of getting bees by mail has really been super. Especially with all the ice and so.

Sat night Carol and I participated in our "classics reading group" We enjoyed a wonderful dinner and in-depth discussion on DH Lawrence, Sons and Lovers with wonderful people at the home of Bob and Blevyn' s.
We also have our new van and hopefully this week we will be able to have the electric scooter lift and power seats installed. I'm all for making the most of whatever "aids" there are that are available to enhance and make life and living more accessible for me. Bee venom therapy is much the same. It makes living life easier and more fluid on a day-to-day basis and I feel keeps this "dis-ease" manageable, keeping the progression to a minimum.

Now here is an e-mail from a woman who is looking to do what she can for her daughter. Wilma writes;

". . . Found your journal pages this evening. I am very upset because my daughter has MS. I am trying to locate a BVT practitioner in New Jersey for her or else someone local that she can communicate with about BVT and where to get supplies etc. Can you help put me in touch with someone perhaps you know of? I read of Pat and Donna but I would like to find someone closer to New Jersey. Thanks you so much . . . " Wilma Levine

Well, it's very clear as to where Wilma's heart and head is at. A concerned mother, a supportive mother anxious to do whatever there is that can be done. I have written to Wilma with suggested reading materials etc. and offered to do what I could to help her and her daughter get started. Perhaps there are folks who can share with Wilma and her daughter. Maybe other parents or other people who are from their "neck of the woods".

Day 2154 March. 25, 2003 9:04 AM EST
Stung 16x this morning on my back, buttocks, sides, and arms.

Started on my back just below my armpits. Then, 2x down each side, 1x each buttock and 2x down the side of each thigh. Finally, 1x on each arm.

I have to say it once again because indeed this is what this online journal is all about - bee venom therapy. I hadn't stung for about 2 weeks and had been feeling pretty draggy. that feeling, it comes and crawls up on you very slowly. But after the session this morning it all comes back and I just felt wonderful. Lots of energy to work and to go out and play.

Finally, getting the feel of spring. Still snow but it's melting rapidly which results in lots of mushy muddy conditions but it's nice to see little bits of green poking up out of the ground.

I've started experimenting with massage therapy and really feel it to be beneficial. I had been introduced to Kurt a young man in his early 20s who is introducing me to how therapeutic massage on muscles stimulates the blood flow and in turn increases the range of motion and decreases the tightness of my muscles. I'll be talking more about this as time goes on. I'm planning to work with Kurt a few times a week through the summer.but my initial reaction is very positive. Why? Because I feel better afterwards.

Now, here's a letter from an individual who sets his own course. Terry writes:

''. . . I have read of its application in MS, but I know nothing. I was diagnosed MS in 1978. My Brain Surgeon was amazed at my condition after MRI in '98 and asked how I do it, that is, still getting around. I told of my 3 prong approach to life; 1) Macro-biotic Vegitarian, 2)NO stess, 3) and Medical Marijuana. She said "don't change a thing, it's working for you." Well... all well and fine, but it is illegal, and supply of high grade Organic marijuana is hard to find and maintain the supply. I have always been interested in learning more of Bee Venom Therapy. Any info would be greatly appreciated.. . . " Terry Yukon42042@yahoo.coma

Well, here's a fellow who is doing all he can with what there is. One thing about this "dis-ease" different things work wonders for some and not at all for others. Obviously this 3 pronged approach has been doing what is needed. But Terry is really open-minded and leaving no stone unturned. Going for bee venom therapy may be just the thing that the "doctor ordered".
The thing about bvt is that it's natural and certainly would seem to fit Terry's "pronged" analogy so as to create the perfect fork.
I've e-mailed Tery and we've had some rather interesting dialog. I cannot say enough about people that take matters into their own hands with enthusiasm, conviction and intelligence.

Day 2175 April 15, 2003 1:32 PM

Stung 16x this morning on my shoulders, sides, waist, arms and hips.

Started and stung 1x on each shoulder. Then, 2x down each side and below the armpit and 1x on each hip and 1x on each side of the waist. Then, 2x on each arm and 1x on each forearm.

The stinging session this morning as usual was really terrific. I hadn't stung my arms in some time and man, I was really able to feel the difference. Not only later on during the day but the stings itself. It seems as though areas that I don't sting on a regular basis hurt more. Perhaps this is nature's way of letting me know that those areas need to be paid more attention to.
Went over to Rob's place afterwards to have my hair "designed". Rob is just something else and I am always reminded not to refer to him as a barber or stylist but rather as a designer.

Kurt, my massage therapist, has really been fantastic. There's no doubt that the massages I have been getting have really been making a difference. More than just a massage, Kurt gets me to stretch muscles in parts of my body that my subconscious mind has forgotten about through lack of use. As time goes by hopefully I'll be able to make more use of whatever I have.

Here's an e-mail from a newly diagnosed lady. Ruth writes:

"...I was really glad too come across your journal since my doctor wanted me to read up on the therapy, he feels it's one of the best therapies out there. I was just diagnosed after a car accident in late August of last year, I'm still sorta inshock, but it did clear up reasons why I had been having all these syptoms the past years that Drs. passed off as getting older or arthritis. I am not using a cane yet, but days do come up that I sure could use one for support. I am just trying to understand the disease right now and make a decision on which therapy too use. . . .I just don't know what to do, I have until the end of this month to decide which is my next appointment. I wish I had your wife on my side, I guess I need to find moral support, I am married, but I think my husband thinks this is something that will just go away, my daughter is great, she is 31, and tries to be there for me all the time but I feel like a burden, and far as my husband goes, talking to him, I feel like I am talking to a wall. I think I am feeling a little to sorry for myself at times too, so I am being pulled in all directions right now, I wasn't expecting this in my life but I guess it's here, and like everything else in my life I will have to deal with it somehow. I just needed to know how to get a hold of Donna, she sounds wonderful, and if you knew anything about the injections my dr. wants me to receive, or do you know someone who has had these injections. . ."Ruth

Here's a letter from a woman who can certainly use suppfirst F12 and a man Iort from others who have embarked on this experim

ental journey. Especially those people that have experimented with this therapy and have benefited after being newly diagnosed. I always think this is the best time to start with bee venom therapy - when one is just newly diagnosed. But it is a committed person who can make that decision early on and stay with it. And support can make all the difference.

Day 2183 April 22, 2003

Stung 12x this mornig on my sides, buttocks, thighs and calves.

Started and stung 3x on each thigh - 2x on top and 1x on the back of each thigh. I'll have to be laying down to really be able to sting on the area that I actually sit on. But today we sung out on the back porch. Maybe next time. Then, we stung 1x on each buttock, 1x atop each foot - above the large to - and 1x on each calf.

Day 2190 April 29, 2003 11:02 a.m.

Stung 18 times this morning on my back, arms, wrists, knees, anklesis and hips.
Started and stung 3x down either side of my back. Then,1x on each upper arm and1x on each forearm. Then,1x on each hip and 1x on the outside of each ankle and 2x on top of each thigh.

Seems like regardless as to when I sting it always feels great and gives me lots of energy. It improves my balance and my range of motion and reach. I guess, that's why I do it - doing whatever I can to make my life and the lives of the ones I love and live with as good and as easy and pleasant as possible. Just keeping on, keeping on!

I'm going to also be researching a relatively new drug developed by a nurse who I believe has developed this treatment in light of her own condition. It is called ProCarin and from what I have been told has few negative side effects. My friend Wally had written to me about the similarities this medication shares with what some feel to be the active positive stimulus inherits in the venom of bees and in turn bee venom therapy. Dr. Karen had also asked me if I was familiar with this drug or anyone who had experimented with it.
Well, I am familiar with the existence of this medication but do not know anyone who has had any first-hand experience with it.
I am open to all new trials and opportunities. So, if there's anyone out there who can shed some more light on this subject please drop me an e-mail.

Day 2201 8:24 PM - May 10, 2003

Stung 18x yesterday morning on my neck , arms, thighs, buttocks and hands.
Started 1x on either side of my neck, then 2x either side of my back, then 1x on each buttock. Then, 2x atop each thigh and 1x on each arm and 1x on each hand (between the thumb and index finger).

Once again, the bee stings had me feeling better, much better, than I had been feeling most of the week .I have to ask Carol to try and push me to have a stinging session even when I do not ask her.
You see, this indeed is a very difficult therapy to maintain. It requires motivation on the part of everyone involved. There is no doubt that ordering the bees from Ferris has made a tremendous difference. Now with Gavin, my oldest, in college and Katrina, 17, running down to fetch bees out from the hives into a mayonnaise jar is not as simple as it once was.
I have gone and researched information on the Internet regarding Prokarin patches. It seems as though it does work on some and not on everyone. Also, it is stressed that it is not a cure only a treatment. Much of what I read sounded a lot like bee venom therapy in terms of what it offers the user. Temporary relief from some symptoms and the need to keep the patches on (2 patches daily) at all times. The patches themselves need to be injected with the Prokarin prior to its application. Perhaps I will give it a try sometime in the future but at the moment bee venom therapy is far more practical. Prokarin is expensive - and bees are inexpensive. The Prokarin is a manufactured drug - bees are all natural and holistic. The hardest thing with bee venom therapy is getting it together to get it done. The results are always beneficial.

But that doesn't mean that this isn't for you! and if you try it and have super results, please let me know!
Right now it's an alternative and Elaine Delack has an informative web site entitled: Prokarin: A Transdermal that relieves symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis.
Like I always say, whatever works. There is no cure for MS but you've got to do what you can with what there is. But you can check-it-out for yourself -

Day 2225 1:50 PM - June 3, 2003

Stung 21x this morning - from my neck down to my toes - and 1x just below the bellybutton.

Starting at the base of my neck just above my left shoulder, Carol and I followed an imaginary line down the sides of my body. I had forgotten to reorder bees online from Ferris and it had been a few weeks since my last session. But from the first sting - which always hurts the most - to the second bee sting when suddenly my entire body begins to "buzz" in a positive response . . . my stiff and sleepy limbs coming alive and I feel better than I have all week - I once again am reminded why I stay with this therapy. Simply put, it feels right.

Day 2242 4:32 PM - June 20, 2003

Stung 19x this morning all up, down and around my body. my shoulders, arms, hands, hips, legs and feet.

The weather has been awfully humid and rainy these past few weeks not only here in upstate New York but all over. Unfortunately this weather really brings out the worst in my particular type of MS condition. Everybody is different and everyone reacts differently and these type of weather conditions preys heavily on my Achilles' heel.

Yesterday I had my annual appointment with my neurologist. This always is a depressing event in that he always lets me know that there is no cure for my condition - multiple sclerosis. He is a nice enough individual and does not discourage me from continuing on with the bee venom therapy. "Whatever you're doing," he tells me, "just keep on doing it because there is nothing new that I can offer." So, I will do what I must do to make the most of what there is.

I also seem to have pulled muscle in my back last week and had been really hurting - up until yesterday when Kurt, my massage therapist, came by and corrected my condition. It was truly amazing! He is so gentle yet effective and was able to find, work on and alleviate the trouble spot. I was really impressed because I had really been extremely uncomfortable and hurting all week. Unfortunately, Kurt will be leaving to New Rochelle next month to continue his education. As much as I would like to convince him to stay in the area - he is determined to become a doctor. Hopefully I will be fortunate enough to come up with someone else that will be even half as good and committed as Kurt.
Finally, here's an e-mail from Johanne F with some excellent links to Prokarin and Low Dose Naltrexone.Johanne writes:

" . . .Many who found Prokarin to work then stop or not work at all have tried it and found that it works much better than Prokarin. The chemist (Goodshape) even sends you a sample so you can try it out. http://disc.server.com/Indices/148285.html Also you should take a look at Low Dose Naltrexone. Just do a search on Goodshape's site at the bottom of the page write: LDN or Naltrexone LDN also has a site you can check out http://www.lowdosenaltrexone.org/index.htm and there's a messageboard where all the people who are using LDN write. Goodshape's histamine does the same thing as Prokarin /bees and LDN so far seems to stop the progression of MS . . . '' Johanne F

Well as, as I said earlier everyone with this "dis-ease" responds differently to different treatments. So far, there is no cure but it is important to stay updated on whatever new treatments are available to enhance the quality of one's life. It is up to each person to take control of their lives as long as it is possible.
