Stung 12x this morning on my back, hips, buttocks, thighs and elbows.
Started and stung 1x below each armpit. Then, 2x down each side and 1x on each buttock. Then, 1x atop each thigh and finally 1x on each elbow.
The stings felt great as usual - waking the body up - but it "stung" or burned more than usual as well. Perhaps because I stung in unusual areas - for me - like my elbows and beneath the armpits. New areas are always more sensitive. But I do feel it's important to treat the entire body because this "dis-ease" is a total body disorder.
The days are getting more and more Spring like - in the 50's - and I am so looking forward to some real warm weather and the chance to swim regularly in the pond. This I miss more than anything else, But it will be another month yet.
John McCoy, the beekeeper from Franklin MT has not returned
yet with new hives In the meantime there are still plenty of bees buzzing
about.
Day 1095 - 10:01 am - May 1, 2000 EST
Stung 16x this morning on my neck, shoulders, sides, back and buttocks.
Started and stung 1x atop each shoulder. Then, 4x down either side. Then, 1x on each hip and 1x on each buttock and finally 1x on each side of the neck.
Have been feeling pretty good this past week. Spring has definitely arrived in upstate NY, some trees are budding and dandelions are beginning to pop out. Still not warm enough to swim however.
This week marks the end of three years of Bee Venom Therapy
for me and the start of the fourth year. It has certainly been a long and
benificial road - worth every sting for sure - and with the help of God,
Carol (my wife) and children, I plan to continue on with this treatment.
Indeed, it is a very tough regiment to follow and "support" of family and
friends have surely proven to be the cornerstone of this therapy. Not because
it hurts or I'm in need of strokes or sympathy or any of that, but simply
because getting, atoring maintaining and being involved with the entire
stinging process takes an enormous amount of commitment. It's so easy -
too easy - to put it off if you're in it on your own. But the rewards are
great. It is safe and it works - for me. Because you can be sure that if
it wasn't performing miracles in my life, I would have quit a long, long
time ago.
Day 1100 - 10:22 am - May 6, 2000 EST
Stung 10x this morning on my thighs, calves and feet.
Started and stung 2x atop each thigh. Then, 1x on each calf and 1x on the side of each knee and 1x atop each foot.
Well, some real warm and decent weather has arrived here in upstate NY and I've retrieved my swimming trunks out of the mothballs and am about to put them on. I'm sure the water is icey cold and it should be fun. But like evrything else with this "dis-ease" every thing you do is wrought with anticipation and uncertainty. Getting in, getting out, too cold, too rocky etc. etc. etc. But off I go. It can only be good.
Day 1105 - 8:23 pm - May 11, 2000 EST
Stung 10x this evening on my neck, sides, shoulders and buttocks.
Started and stung 1x atop each shoulder. Then, 1x on each side of the neck. Then, 1x below the waist on the back and 1x on each hip and 1x on each buttocks. Then I ran out of bees so I'll have to send my kids down to the hives to fetch some fresh ones. John McCoy, the beekeeper from Franklin MT has already replaced the 5 dead hives. What a terrific guy! Something "sweet" about those beekeepers.
Oh yes, we certainly did have some wonderful warm weather here these past few days and yes, I was able to swim in that cold water pond several times. It was great! Not only the "coolness" but the stretching of my body and the exercise was super.
Now, here's a letter from someone who has done Bee Venom Therapy and is now trying something else. Fran writes:
". . . Last night, late, I was leaving the computer on my scooter, got to the bedroom, and just wanted to walk. I may have looked drunk and slow, but I didn't touch the wall or furniture and walked a good 100'+ and got my cane out of the utility room, and walked back to the bedroom. Before this, I didn't have enough balance to walk with the cane---wall walking, I tried a few times, but gave up. This was my 51st day of Procarin and 34th day of LDN. Today I walked , maybe too slow, but walked. Then after lunch, I got on my scooter and drove my van, and got Mother's Day presents, groceries, etc., and came back home and did some more walking--slow, but walking. I did not do this good after 4 months on Procarin in 1999--off 4 months--now back on my 2nd month, but with LDN added. Maybe LDN is the magic bullet. Now, looking forward to the next day!. . ." Cya, Fran FLMBAYOU41@aol.com
Well, I'm not sure about that Procarin patch but this is the first I've heard about LDN. Perhaps there's something to it. I'll ask Dr. Jim about it and what possible side effects. . . and keep my eye on Fran! Bee Venom Therapy keeps things status quo - but does this LDN have improving qualities? Leave no stone unturned.
Day 1110 - 9:21 am - May 16, 2000 EST
Stung 12x this morning on my thighs, knees, calves, ankles and feet.
Started and stung 2x atop each thigh. Then, 1x on the inside of each knee and inside of each calf. Then, 1x on the inside of each ankle and finally 1x atop each foot.
Gavin, my 16 year old, went down to the hives and brought back a big, fresh batch of bees, Great to hear that familiar buzzing in the house. The weather has remained somewhat pleasant although a bit too cool to swim every day, But "tis the season".
Received lots of e-mail this week regarding that LDN that Fran had written about. Jury is still out on that one as I'm still awaiting word from Dr. Jim and his thoughts. When I get them I'll pass them along.
Carol, my beautiful wife, will be headed back into the
hospital tomorrow for the final stage of re-constructive breast surgery.
She'll be in for a day or so and hopefully this will be a quick and easy
deal. We're not expecting any surprises so with God's help we'll be able
to put this entire experience behind us - soon!
Day 1116 - 9:25 am - May 22, 2000 EST
Stung 14x this morning on my shoulders, sides, hips, thighs and feet.
Started and stung 1x atop each shoulder. Then, 3x down each side of the torso. Then, 1x on each hip and 1x atop each thigh. Finally, 1x atop my left foot and 1x on my right calf.
My stomach has really been bothering me for the past few days - achey and loose bowels. The stings this morning had me up and feeling loose but also sitting on the pot! I sure hope this passes soon.
Man, don't know what happened to all that wonderful weather. It started raining last week and has just not let up. Oh well, it has to in time. I had just thought that by now I'd be swimming a lot more. The pond is full and that's the good news.
And Carol, my beautiful wife, is back home from the hospital.
She's doing really well and recuperating from her surgery. With god's help
this will be the end of this ordeal and we can begin getting life back
to normal.
Day 1119 - 4:43 pm - May 25, 2000 EST
Stung 20x this morning over my entire body.
Started and stung 2x atop each thigh. Then, 1x on each calf. Then, 1x on the inside of each ankle and 1x atop the large toe. Then 1x atop each shoulder and 2x down each side and 1x on each hip and 1x on each buttock.
And yes, it felt great and left me feeling very energized. I needed it too because I had a dentist appointment right fterwards and I always need that extra "oomph" to get into and out of the office. And I did what had to be done and that's what Bee Venom Therapy is all about - being able to do the things that I would not otherwise be able to do.
And during our session one bee escaped my darling wife's tweezers, snagged in her hair and yes - stung her on the scalp. Well, it's great to have her stinging me again. A couple of Tylenol and she was buzzing as well.
The rain stopped long enough yesterday for a swim in the
pond. Man, it's always so great. The stretching and the cold water and
exercise, there's nothing like it!
Day 1125 - 10:01 am - May 31, 2000 EST
Stung 18x this morning on my my shoulders, back, hips, thighs, knees and ankles.
Started and stung 1x atop each shoulder and 3x down the back. Then, 1x on each hip and 1 x on each buttock. Then, 1x on the outside of each thigh and knee and finally x on the inside of each ankle.
Have been feeling pretty good although I have not as of yet entered into a satisfactory regime of swimming - the weather is on again off again. But summer is here and I am looking forward to getting in some good exercises in that cool-cold pond. Matter of fact, as soon as I finish this entry I'll climb aboard my new GX-4 wheeled scooter and go for a swim.
The Bee Hotel where I've been transferring bees from the hives all in winter is still working out very well. They do actually survive for weeks at a time in the box. It's certainly a lot easier than coaxing bees out from the hives every few weeks.
Carol, my beautiful wife, is finished with all of her surgery and now has only to recuperate. She's doing great and what a fine time of year for that.
Day 1132 - 10:34 am - June 1, 2000 EST
Stung 14x this morning on my neck, back, arms, hands and buttocks,
Started and stung 1x on each side of the neck. Then, 2x on each side of the back. Then, 1x on each firearm and 1x on each bicep and 1x on each hand - between thumb and index finger. Finally, 1x on each buttock.
Man, those bee stings were HOT this morning and really burned! The bees in the Bee Hotel had expired and I'd sent myson Gavin, 16, down to the hives to fetch a jarful of fresh ones. Well, they must have been young ang potent with lots of good veneom because the sting sites all swelled up as well. The session really left me energized as my fingrs "fly" across these keys.
My dear cyber-chum Ray Seal has been having a really hard time of it lately and I am so feeling for him and what he's going through right now. Ray had given Bee Venom Therapy a lot of time and has given it up. He had felt that it had not been worth it. He'd expected more. Ray writes:
" . . . It's already hot as hades here. I guess I won't go outside till its over. Hospice came yesterday & today. The dr. & me both think the end is near. love. . . " ,Ray
Ray is a fantastic person and I support him in whatever he does, or does not do. We all know how difficult this "dis-ease" is and how cruel it can be. We're all constantly being forced into making choices and I would suppose that doing nothing is as valid a choice as anything else. Ray just doesn't feel that there are any options left for him to try. I pray for a miracle in his life for indeed, "all things are possible".
Day 1138 - 1:04 pm - June 13, 2000 EST
Stung 10x this morning on my thighs, knees, calves, feet and hips.
Started and stung 1x atop each thigh. Then, 1x on the outside of each knee and calf. Then, 1x atop each foot - above the large toe and finally 1x n each hip.
Will have to send Gavin, my 16 year old, down to the hives again for more bees. Still too much rain as I dart in and out of the pond between the clouds. But it's always worth it. I can always feel the difference in my body and my "range of motion" on the days that I swim
Coleen, my physical therapist made a surprise visit into town yesterday - from further upstate NY where she is studying - and we had a nice long exercise session. It's always a treat to work with her and stretch even more parts of my body that I just can't do on my own.
And here's another e-mail from my buddy Ray. Ray writes:
". . . I am unable to have your level of optimism. Hospice, so far, has been really good. Liver function appears acceptible, but you know, as I know, that the end is coming. And now the doctor recognizes that. I think about you and Carol, and Katrina & Gavin often. love, Ray
Well, I'm going to "keep on keeping on" and keep writing and praying for Ray and his wife and two young (and super-bright) children. It ain't over till it's over and I would love to see something happen. Perhaps a new doctor? Some folks think that I am "out of turn" here and should just mind my "own" business. They say that these are "personal" decisions and of course. . . they are. But like the Quakers say, "When you pray, move your feet." So I'm praying - and minding Ray's business - because that's all I know how to do
Day 1145 - 11:25 am - June 20, 2000 EST
Stung 12x this morning on my thighs, legs, feet and buttocks.
Started and stung 2x atop each thigh. Then, 1x on each calf and 1x on the top of each foot. Then, 1x behind each ankle and finally 1x on each buttock.
Very nice weather we've been having. Katrina, my 14 year old, had an end of school-year party yeterday and lots of kids enjoyed the pond. It was nice to have the eneergy to be involved with my daughter and her friends. That's what Bee Venom Therapy is all about. Having the strength - and motivation - to be "into" things - into life. It certainly helps curb that fatigue syndrom not only just after being stung but over longer periods of time.
Day 1151 - 11:12 am - June 26, 2000 EST
Stung 12x this mornig on my sides, buttocks, thighs and calves.
Started and stung 3x down either side. Then, 1x on each buttock, 1x atop each thigh and 1x on each calf.
Into the hot and humid days of summer now and of course these are the "draggy" times. Nothing like heat and humidity to slow down the mechanism. But coolness is the best - for me - and frequent swims in the pond always offers some real immediate relied. But just like everything else, it's only temporary. The Bee Venom Therapy - the stings - do its part and anything else you can do to make "living" easier or more comfortable - I should say more "bearable" - is what it's all about.
Gavin, my 16 year old, will be going off to Binghamton University for six weeks to take some advance classes and Katrina, my 14 year old will be off to camp for a few weeks. They'll be leaving this weekend so I'm trying to spend some "quality" time with them this week - the first week of summer. They'll be in and out of the house all summer doing their things - some with Carol and I and some on their own. In August we'll all be going down south to visit my in-laws (family reunion). There's a long hot summer ahead.
Day 1158
- 10:55 am - July 3, 2000 EST
Stung 16x this morning on my shoulders, sides, buttocks, knees, calves
and feet.
Started and stung 1x atop each shoulder. Then, 3x down each side and
1x on each buttock. Then, 1x on the side of each thigh and 1x on the right
side of the right knee. Then, 1x on each calf and 1x atop the left foot.
The kids left yesterday and my dear friends Bob and Nita with their beautiful daughter Sofia are here with us for the weekend. Just super to see them and spend "quality" time with old friends. Also, in celebration of my beautiful wife Carol's wonderful recovery we're having a bunch of folks over for dinner tonight. Our porch is complete, the weather is perfect and all these people have been so incredibly helpful we just want to scream it from the mountain tops! So, a dinner party. Should be fun and with a good stinging session this morning the energy will be there. That's what Bee Venom Therapy is all about. Having the impetus and desire to "do" and thus live life to the best of one's ability.
Day 1164 - 12:25 pm - July 9, 2000 EST
Stung 8x yesterday afternoon on my hips, back and thighs.
Started and stung 2x on my upper back. Then, 1x on each hip and 1x on each buttock and finally 1x atop each thigh.
Went to a play at the Franklin Theater last night to see "Golden Boy". It was just terrific. It's a small summer stock playhouse up here and the acting and sets are really fantastic! I went with the family and some friends and we all had a g and time.
Our dinner party last Sunday was also wonderful and a success. Invited lots of good friends that have been so supportive over this past winter. And of course, stinging with bees just makes it all so much more do-able. Gives me that surge of energy to do what I'd like to do. A number of folks have written to me a bout bee venom drops. Don't know about how that might work. I get "energized" by the actual "sting" and just can't figure out how drops would work. I wonder if others know more about it.
Finally, here's an email from someone looking for some support. Joe writes:
MY NAME IS JOE LAMBRELLI. I AM INTERESTED IN BEE THERAPY BUT HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO GET STARTED. YOU CAN REACH ME @JLAMBRELLI@AOL.COM .PLEASE GIVE ME A JINGLE ON THE COMPUTER. I AM LOCATED IN LAS VEGAS. NEVADA.JOE
So, if you are nearby why not get in touch. Could make a world of difference to Joe. . . and to yourself too.
Day 1170 - 12:02 pm - July 15, 2000 EST
Stung 8x last night on my arms, wrists, hands and neck.
Started and stung 1x on each arm and 1x on each wrist - palms up - and 1x on each hand between thumb and index fimger. Finally, 1x on each side of the neck.
Lots of rain here these past few days so swimming in the pond has been sporadic. But whenever I do, it's always worth it.
Hands and fingers have been feeling tight and cramped
recently - probably too much intense typing . Thus the stinging of the
hands and wrists. Seems like heat and humidity slow my body down too, so
lots of rain on warm days is something to watch out for. Gave the lower
half of my body a rest last night although I probably would have stung
my feet as well had Katrina, my 14 year old who had stung me during last
night's session been able to coax more bees out of the Bee Hotel. But it
was late and we were all tired. Well, one thing about Bee Venom Therapy
. . . there's always another time!
Day 1174 - 9:49 am - July 19, 2000 EST
Stung 10x yesterday morning on my buttocks, thighs, calves, feet and hips.
Started and stung 1x on each buttock. Then, 1x on each thigh and 1x on each calf and 1x atop each foot. Finally, 1x atop each foot. Again, I'd have preferred to have stung more - another 6-10 stings - but that was all the bees there were remaining in the jar. Katrina, my 14 year old, had only gotten about 50 bees or so on her last trip to the hives. I'd asked her to go down and fetch me more but. . . well, she didn't quite get around to it. And that's fine, believe you me I greatly appreciate what my family does in supporting me throughout this therapy. It's a "family affair" and support is everything. I just don't how I'd manage all this without them. And how I admire those who go this route on their own. They are extra-ordinary!
But the 10 stings served me well and did its job. Had a dentist appointment yesterday and did my "schlepping" thing - into the dentist's office - 3 cavities filled - and back out to the van. More stings would have made it easier and given my body more energy and flexibility but I'm not complaining. Because after all these years it still works! After getting stung I am still able to do more - mare than before having been stung. And it may not last for long - maybe 3 or 4 good hours - and Bee Venom Therapy may not be a cure, but thank God it's natural with no bad side effects and it still works. And if it keeps this "dis-ease" in "check" until a real cure comes along - I'm a blessed man.
Day 1180 - 2:29 pm - July 25, 2000 EST
Stung 8x this morning on my arms and hands and shoulders.
Started and stung 1x on each bicep. Then, 1x on each wrist - palms down - and 1x on each hand between thumb and index finger. Finally, 1x atop each shoulder.
Again, didn't sting as much as I would have preferred but the main thing is to just keep a "healthy" amount of bee venom in the system
The days are real nice and the weather is warm and the pond is cool and the exercise is wonderful. And how do I KNOW this? Because when I don't exercise or stretch or do anything at all I get so stiff and tight. The bees are just the thing to get me up and energized. It also is all the "real" medication I do to keep this 'dis-ease" under control. And yes, some days are better than others but all in all I'm still holding my own.
Here's an e-mail from Amanda who is looking to help her mom. Amanda writes:
". . . My mother has recently found out she has MS she is not doing well she is very week and fatigued. All she can do is lay, she can't even bath her self. We need help! We are very interested in trying the bee venom theropy but we need some information on how to do it. We live in Neosho Missouri is there any place in Missouri who we can contact to get her started on this theropy????? We are willing to go out of state if need be my mom is very desprate to live a normal live. PLEASE HELP US!!!! . . . "Thanks- Amanda Morgan
I've written and given my support and suggestions. Perhaps if you are nearby you might be able to offer more. Or just a note of support to let Amanda and her mom know that they are not alone. It's a cry for help - a cry that just can't be ignored. Because in the end all we really have is one another.
Day 1186 - 1:09 pm - July 31, 2000 EST
Stung 12x this morning on my hips, thighs, calves and feet.
Started and stung 2x atop each thigh. Then, 1x on each calf and 2x atop each footand finally 1x on each hip.
Still feel the difference between getting and not getting stung. This past week it has been very humid and I'd been feeling pretty draggy. Got up this morning and could just feel it in the air. And it's going to be this way all week. But after the session this morning felt very energized and alert. These indeed are the "dog days" of summer and everything helps a little - the bees, the pond and even a little Ritalin to get me up and going when necessary. Whatever there is.
Day 1190 - 11:07am - August 4, 2000 EST
Stung 11x this morning on my buttock, thighs, calves and ankles. . . and hand.
This morning we did it a little different. After coaxing the bees out of the Bee Hotel into the mayonnaise jar we retired to the bedroom. Here I lay on my stomach and had Carol, my wife, sting me on the back of my buttocks, thighs and ankles. This was very good. It's always great to be stung on the lower half of my body and it's always wonderful to be stung in areas of the body that haven't been stung in a long time. The effects were immediate and the session left me feeling very up and loose and limber. Oh yes, I stung 1x on my right hand below the pinky finger on the side. Keeps the tightness and cramping away from too much keyboard use.
Day 1197 - 11:43am - August 11, 2000 EST
Stung 8x this morning on my hips, buttocks and thighs.
Started and stung 1x on each buttock and 1x on each hip. Then, 2x atop each thigh.
I suppose in this warmer weather that we've been having the bees in the Bee Hotel are not surviving as long as they did. Ran out of bees again and I'll have to get Gavin, my 16 year old to fetch more this weekend.
Been swimming everyday and like the bee stinging it always gives me great surges of energy. Again, nothing feels better than after being stung or after a swim in the cool pond. Also, the tightness and cramping in my hands are much improved. Just a bit of stinging on the hand last time really seemed to have gone a long way.
Here's an e-mail from a fallow who has just recently begun to sting. Dave writes:
". . .i just started stinging again after my bout with cellulits. how long after you started stinging did you start to feel a little better. i know everyone is different but i just want a kind of gauge. im stinging 8 times a day 3 times a week and i will go to ten next week and in the places i think will help untill i get to the number of stings where i feel good. do you think thats sound thinking. please respond. . . " Dave
Dave had had a rough time at the onset. But along with
his loving and supportive wife Karen has thrown himself back into the treatment.
I have a lot of respect and admiration for this man. He is determined and
smart. I'm sure many of you have had hard and unsure times with Bee Venom
Therapy and having persevered and triumphed realized the benefits. I'm
sure Dave could use some of those insightful realizations just about now.
If you've got the time and inclination, perhaps drop him an e-mail. He's
a very special fellow.
Day 1203 - 8:40am - August 17, 2000 EST
Stung 16x yesterday afternoon on my shoulders, sides, buttocks, thighs, calves and feet.
Started and stung 1x atop each shoulder. Then, 2x down either side and 1x on each buttock. Then, 1x on each thigh and 1x on each calf and 2x on each foot - 1x behind the outside of each ankle and 1x on the outside - side - of each foot.
My wife Carol and my son Gavin and myself were invited to dinner at my dear friend's home Elizabeth and Roy last night and afterwards we all went out to the Franklin Stock Theater to see a wonderful production of Taming of the Shrew. So yes, I needed that stinging session before my sojourn. I'd been feeling pretty "draggy" all day but after the session my body woke up and I had all the energy I needed to socialize and enjoy. And that's what Bee Venom Therapy is all about - for me. It's not a cure. Hopefully it keeps this 'dis-ease" in check and at the same time improves the quality of my life. Can I ask for more? You bet! But I haven't found it yet.
Next week we'll all be driving down to Tenn. to visit
my in-laws and family. I'll definitely be bringing along a jarful of bees.
Day 1207 - 10:04am - August 21, 2000 EST
Stung 8x this morning on my arms, wrists and hands.
Started and stung 1x on each bicep. Then, 1x on each forearm and 1x on each wrist - palms down - and finally on each hand between thumb and index finger.
We'll be leaving first thing tomorrow morning for Tenn. to visit my wife Carol's family. A family reunion of sorts. We'll be driving and we're all looking forward to it. Both Gavin, my 16 year old, and Katrina, my 14 year old have been away - off and on - this summer on their own. Now, it's time to do the family thing together. Will be returning home around Labor Day.
I'll be sending Katrina down to the hives soon to fetch a jarful of bees for the trip. Don't want to "leave home without it!"
Here's an e-mail from my dear cyber-friend Judy. She shares with us her courage, determination and belief in Bee Venom Therapy. Judy writes:
" . . .So sorry I havn't written much lately ... hands and fingers don't work real well ... but, Andy is creative. He's straightened all my fingers with popcycle sticks and heavy rubber bands around my hands serve as muscle when holding spoon or pencil for pushing buttons on keyboard. I will sting as long as I live because that bee venom helps me in so very many ways. . . . But, otherwise all is well. Really! ALL is well. How are you doing? How is Carol? I'm listening to the best - funniest - book written by Stephen King called 'Delores Clayborn' ... and you've probably seen the movie. But, it is FANTASTIC and it is good. We ALL need to laugh ... as much as possible. We need bee stings, raw honey, royal jelly, propolis and LAUGHTER. Good to hear from you. Think about you and Carol ALL the time. Love from both Andy and me to both of you. Judy
What a great lady! So much a fighter, so smart, so full of LIFE! Judy has been stiunging for years and continues to be an incredible inspiration to me. God bless her!
Day 1221 - 11:34am - Sept. 4, 2000 EST
Stung 28x this morning all over my arms and legs and sides and feet and hands and fingers and. . . .
Had a great vacation with my in-laws in Tenn.. Unortunately "somebody" put the bee jar in a plastic bag while bringing them out from the van into our hotel suite. That's right, they were all dead. I was disappointed but one needs to "go with the flow" . Towards the last few days I started feeling a bit too tight and stiff. So, I took 2mgs. of Dexamethasone (always carry some with me) and it loosened me right up. It was good and did the job but it's nothing I want to get into on a regular basis. Bees just seem a safer choice.
So the summer is coming to an end and my swimming days
in the pond are numbered. The kids will be headed back to school in a few
days and . . . life goes on.
Day 1227 - 11:23am - Sept. 10, 2000 EST
Stung 15x this morning on my thighs, calves, hips, feet, buttocks and neck.
Started and stung 2x on each thigh. Then, 1x on each buttock and 1x on each calf. Then, 1x on each hip and 2x on each side of my torso and finally a "runaway" bee stung me on the right side of my head below my ear.
It just continues to amaze me - even after all this time - how good my body reacts to the bee stings and yet, how difficult a regime this therapy is to follow. Not because the stings hurt or anything because that is a given and an integral part of the therapy. Besides, human beings seem to have the ability to adjust and accept just about anything. But I think stinging ones self "consciously" is such an abnormal thing to do that ones "practical" and "rational" mind will do whatever it can to postpone or put it off. To "delay" is the "normal" thing to do. That's why support is so important - support of family, partner or friend. One needs that encouragement. And once the bee "stings" the relief is so real and so worth it, it just can not be denied.
Day 1233 - 10:11am - Sept. 16, 2000 EST
Stung 16x this morning on my thighs, calves, hips, feet, buttocks and hands.
Started and stung 2x atop each thigh. Then, 1x on each buttock and 1x on each calf and 1x atop each foot. Then, 1x on each hip and 2x on each hand - 1x on each side and 1x between thumb and index finger.
Carol. my wife, had some relief this morning and Katrina, my 14 year old, did the stinging for me. She's really good at it. Great kid!
I received this e-mail last week from a woman who is looking to do something for her mother. It is a very general lertter and after taking some time and thought to reply I was disappointed when the e-mail came back to me with a "wrong address". So, in hope of reaching Lori, I thought I'd post her letter along with my reply. Lori wrote:
"Hello Barry. My name is Lori. I have read your diary on and off for about two years. My Mom has M.S. and I have just recently seriously looked into beestings as form of treatment. She seems willing to let me help and even try that approach. I have ordered the "how to" book from Pat Wagner and I am eagerly anticipating its arrival. If you will, I have a question pertaining to your mobility. I am curious to your stamina. My Mom hasn't any and although she has been quite fortunate, since being diagnosed over ten years ago, I am watching her walking deteriorate. She is so very stiff and I feel that a wheelchair will be in her future very soon. I am hoping to assist her in maybe reversing some of the effects with the bee stings. I wasn't sure how you are getting along now. If you wouldn't mind letting me look over your shoulder I would love to get a brief synopses of where you were before in reference to where you are now physically and emotionally. I don't enough about this type of treatment so I am hoping that we haven't waited too long in helping my mother retain her independence. Thankyou for listening. I hope to hear from you soon. Lori"
And my reply:
Lori- I can understand that reading my journal in its
entirety is a task. I can only say that I am still active and involved
in life. I use an electric scooter and probably depend on it more than
I would like to but part of dealing with this "dis-ease" is making the
most out of life with what there is. Bee Venom Therapy has given me something
that I can do, rather than throw my arms up into the air and say, "They
can't help me!" I am not a doctor. I can only say that when I sting, I
feel better. Has it reversed my symptoms? Sure would be nice to think so.
Have I gotten any more disabled? I would have to say that when I began
this therapy I was feeling pretty desperate. It's not an easy treatment
to stay with. But if it was not doing something for me believe you me -
I wouldn't do it. But that doesn't rule out other medications and vitamins
and good food and everything else to improve the odds of making this body
of mine hum along. My doctor says that there could be a cure for MS in
5-10 years. I'll be 60 then. ., . and ready to pick right up where I'd
left off. Am I answering your question? I hope so. My stamina is great
- when I get stung. That's why I do it. I also take Ritalin when I need
it. Not a lot - just if I need it. I'm all for any kind of medicine that
helps me without hurting me, i.e. negative side effects. But like everything
else about this thing, everybody's different. BVT is supposed to work better
on females than males. With Gods help. your mother will have a miracle,
like with Pat Wagner. Talk with her - she is a blessed woman. She's very
accessible - you can get her address at my site. It was her book and her
"being there" that had started me out on this journey. So let me know what
happens. I'm interested. Be as supportive of her as I know that you are.
As John Lennon wrote, "Love is the answer." All the best. Barry
Day 1238 - 11:07am - Sept. 21, 2000 EST
Stung 6x this morning on my hands, hips and back.
Started and stung 1x on the side of each hand.. Then, 1x on each hip and finally one time on each side of my waist.
Great, great sadness this week having received this e-mail from Andy, Judy's husband. Andy writes:
"This is a sad and happy notice to you that Judy Alvarez passed on, Friday, September 15th. We know that she has gone home to her Father's house and that she is comfortable and free of pain and free of her body which no longer functioned. She devoted much of her time trying to help and inform people about bee venom therapy (BVT). She was also vocal in trying to help handicapped people. And she was fascinated with the racing pigeons. She worked on all her pet projects until her fingers no longer allowed her to work her computer. . . Please forward to any of your friends who knew her or who may have heard of her and her interest in BVT. We are certain that the bees kept Judy with us for at least two years longer than she would've lasted without them. Service will be Wednesday, September 20th, at 2:00 PM. at Olinger Highland Cemetery, 10201 North Grant St., Thornton, CO Phone: 303-451-6647. Your prayers will be appreciated. Sincerely, Andy Alvarez, husband, and Marjorie Doty, mother.
*Judy's e-mail address was a1al2@aol.com Home address: 3490 Kellogg Pl, Westminster, CO 80030
Oh, what a great loss! Judy was a true cyber-chum and I will miss her and her e-mails so very, very much. She was such a support to me . . . and so many - I can't believe she's gone. I'd just posted an e-mail from her on August 21st. But she was ready to pass on - and she'd let me know. Here's an e-mail she'd sent me in June, one in which she lets me know in no uncertain terms just where she was at. We had been discussing Life and my concerns and feelings about another dear cyber-chum and great support of ours, Ray Seal. Life and hope. This was Judy's response:
"Dear Barry: There is ALWAYS life and there is ALWAYS hope. You WILL meet Ray. You should write to him and keep writing. You know he's very much afraid right now ... like we ALL are and will be. No ... you don't give up on Ray and you don't give up on yourself. The trouble with us Barry ... is that we are SO conditioned to this physical plain we're on we actually believe that's all there is to life. You and Carol have GOT to hear studies done and written about by ... Raymond Moody, M.D., Elizabeth Kubler Ross, M.D., and all you have to do is call your Talking Book Library and order every single book written by them for starters. Then you order every reference book they used to start their books from. One of the reference books is the Bible, itself. There is no death. There is change ... and none of us welcome change. Adjusting to a new job or a new neighborhood or a new school is harder than nails sometimes. Being sick is a horrible change ... especially when you have always been healthy. But, YOU brought light and hope to thousands, maybe millions out there ... who have sickness to contend with suddenly. We ALL pass from this life ... ALL of us. Every living organism passes from this existance ... thank God. But life does not end ... it changes. You are listening to a book right now that talks about change ... and that book was written by a Budist Monk. Don't give up on Ray ... pray for him and send him letters. Keep giving hope to everyone out there who has lost hope. Never give up on yourself and just KNOW you are never alone. Judy"
Wow! What a person. God, how I miss
her.
Day 1245 - 10:10am - Sept. 28, 2000 EST
Stung 10x yesterday afternoon on my hands, forearms, sides and calves.
Did something a little bit different yesterday. I was surprised to see that all the bees (about 100) in the Bee Hotel had died . . .and I was to blame. I'd been leaving them out on the porch over the past several days and during the night, when the temperatures dropped into the 30"s, the sugar-water solution crystallized over the small holes on the lid of the feeder jar. Hence, the bees were unable to suck and feed. Not a big deal really (other than the fact I starved them to deatnh) because I can always send the kids down to the hives for more. But I was ready to sting and the kids were in school.
Anyway, I'd just received this e-mail from a couple using Bee Venom Therapy in Virginia.. They write:
". . .We, Connie& Bob Love,
Have just started bvt for Connie who has been dxed with Primary Laterial
Sc. So thought we would pass this on. To get our bees for treatment we
set a cereal bowl with about 2-3 TB of honey on the porch railing and have
breakfast. In about 20 minutes we have all the volunteers we need. It works
best if you have some honeycomb or if not stale bread NOT moldy or you
can even use sugar water on a clean sponge We then go out with a pair of
forceps [ roach clips] and get then direct from the comb . They are so
buzzy doing their thing they don't even notice Good luck and hope this
helps someone.. . "
Connie
& Bob from mid. VA
Well, thanks guys. It worked! Carol, my wife, and I, hung out by the pond where bees are continuously coming to drink. In about 15 minutes - after setting a honey soaked sponge in a bowl by the pond's edge - we had guests. Of course, stinging down by the pond with most of my clothing on (about 65 degrees) limited the areas on my body that I was able to sting. But hey, the key thing - I feel - is to have a constant amount of bee venom in my system all the time so as to keep this "dis-ease" in check. So I was grateful to Connie and Bob for the idea. Very astute of them to figure that out. And I wish Connie much success on her journey back to health.
No doubt this is a fine method for warmer Summer days and I will certainly look forward to employing it next season.
Day 1251 - 10:25am - Oct. 4, 2000 EST
Stung 20x yesterday morning on my thighs, calves, hips, feet, buttocks and sides and shoulders.
Started and stung 2x atop each thigh. Then, 1x on each buttock and 1x on the inside of each knee. Then, 1x on each calf and 1x behind each ankle. Then, 1x on each hip and 2x on my back down each side - approx. 3" from the spine. Finally, 1x on atop each shoulder.
Really felt like I'd needed those stings yesterday. The weather is rainy and the humidity is high and that always plays havoc on my energy and the fatigue factor. Also, it's that time of year again - the Fall and the change of seasons when in the past exacerbations have been prevalent. So keeping up a steady regime of bee venom is the thing to do - for me. I haven't any options really.
Friends dropped by last night and we chatted well into the late hours. It wasn't until this morning that I realized how much energy I did have. No doubt, I owe it to the Bee Venom. Although the real surge of energy always comes just after being stung and lasts for about 2 or 3 hors, an overall feeling of alertness remains throughout the day. And the tightness and stiffness throughout my body is much relieved over the next few days. Then, it's time to do it all over again.
Day 1257 - 10:11am - Oct. 10, 2000 EST
Stung 10x this morning on my thighs, calves, hips md buttocks.
Started and stung 1x on the outside of each thigh. Then, 1x on each buttock and 1x on each calf. Then, 1x on each hip and finally 1x atop each foot - just above the big toe.
Well. that's it. Winter is here even before all the leaves have fallen off the trees. Awoke this morning to an inch or so of snow. Really, really beautiful.
Have been feeling pretty good and as usual after getting stung always feel better. Looser and less tight and more energetic. Must also begin - very soon - to get into a daily regime of exercises, stretching or lifting some hand weights or something. Very important indeed. Will also have to get the kids to fetch me a good amount of bees and get them into the Bee Hotel where they should last for about 4 weeks at a time.
Day 1264 - 8:59am - Oct. 17, 2000 EST
Stung 14x this morning on my shoulders, back, thighs, calves and hips.
Started and stung 1x atop each shoulder. Then, 2x down each side. Then, 1x on each hip and 2x atop each thigh and 1x on each calf.
Have started a bit of an exercise routine - a little each day. Picked up those hand weights (3 & 5 lbs.) and whenever I feel like I've got the energy I just twist, lift, turn, pull and rotate them every which way. I've got 3 or 4 of them and I leave them about the house - in the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom - wherever - and in this way it's never a big "to do". They're always around. Probably not the best or scientific way to do things but it works for me. Mr. Universe, I'll never be.
After that initial bit of snow last week things have mellowed out a bit here in upstate NY and the weather is more seasonable - 50's and 60's. But the snow and cold will be here soon enough.
Day 1272- 2:49pm - Oct. 25, 2000 EST
Stung 20x this morning on my shoulders, thighs, calves, hips, feet, buttocks and sides..
Started and stung 1x on atop each shoulder. Then, 1x atop each thigh. Then, 1x on each buttock and 1x on the inside of each knee. Then, 1x on each calf and 1x behind each ankle. Then, 1x on each hip and 2x on my back down each side. Finally, 1x on each forearm.
My beautiful wife, Carol, had to deal with some of her own physical trips this week re-working some of that breast reconstruction with some "minor" surgery. Her mother, Joan, came up last and spent the week with us. She took Carol to the hospital and stayed with her for the two days. She'll be leaving today. Anyway, I've wanted to sting all week but I didn't. I am somewhat reliant on others for me to sting. But what the heck, at least once a week is good. Keep that venom pumping in the system. I am very understanding and truth be known had I wanted I could have "gotten someone" - either Gavin, my 16 year old or Katrina, my 14 year old - to do it. But - other things going on. Life.
That's why I say, this is a tough regiment to follow. It takes a lot of support. Here's an e-mail from a person D. who writes:
"I am doing BVT but must sting myself and cannot reach all areas on my back recommended in Pat Wagner's book. Also, i am not sure that my aim with the bees gets to the exact trigger points. Does anyone know if this is a serious detriment to my successs with BVT? DGalloway@aol.com
I would say - just keep at it. What do you think?
Day 1278- 4:34pm - Oct. 31, 2000 EST
I left the last batch out on the porch and it just got too cold for them. Fortunately there weren't all that many remaining.
Received lots of interesting e-mail this week in response to DGalloway's question. Here's an e-mail that a long-time cyber-pal sent to me along with a response to DGalloway. Jorge writes:
". . .I am glad your still stinging
and keeping your journal. I too am still stinging. This year has brought
increase pain with spasticity and BVT continues to provide some relief.
It helps, I just hope it continues to withstand the test of time. This
year has been difficult as in the passing of our mutual friend Judy. Although,
it's consoling to think, she is at peace,it is also very sad and she is
missed.
To leave this short message on
a brighter note, I want to share with you that This year I ended up coaching
a 12 year and under girls soccer team. It was totaly unexpected but for
the record we're 1 in 7 having fun and it would have been impossible for
me to accomplish without among other things BVT. Well my cyberspace friend
take care.. . ." Jorge
And here is the e-mail Jorge sent to DGalloway:
". . . Hi, just read your post and agree with Berry. I basically just want to encourage you to sting and to keep trying. I've stung wherever I am experiencing spasticity or just anywhere to get the chemicals into my body. I believe it comes down to what theory one believes.3. That the BVT sting acts as a decoy that stimulates the body to redirect the MS autoimmune attack away from the nervous system thus providing some neurological relief. Like someone said, in regard to something else "Dunno don't care after five yrs, I am just so grateful it has helped." Sincerely, Jorge
Very smart person - doing the most with what there is.
Sees the benifits in Bee Venom Therapy and goes with it. And it's obvioussly
doing something. BVT is not a cure - no. But it's the best there is for
right now.
Day 1284- 10:04am - Nov. 6, 2000 EST
Stung 18x this morning on my my shoulders, back, buttocks, thighs, calves, ankles and feet.
Started and stung 1x atop each shoulder and 2x down the sides of my back. Then, 1x on each buttock and 1x atop each foot above the big toe. Then, 1x on the outside of each thigh and finally 1x on the inside of each ankle.
Had my semiannual visit with Dr. Jim last week and I'm happy to report that things are still status-quo - from his objective viewpoint. As far as he can tell I seem to be holding my own. To me, from my subjective viewpoint, I feel as though I am not getting any new MS symptoms. Things that were screwed up with my body prior to Bee Venom Therapy, those symptoms continue to improve immediately after stinging sessions. But new symptoms, and we all know t
hose can be many, have not appeared. And although to my wife Carol and even to Dr. Jim there are things that they seem to feel have improved for me - like the fatigue factor - I'm not convinced of because things change so drastically from day to day and even hour to hour. But I'm not complaining. If I can only hold my own long enough, then with God's help a cure will be discovered soon.
Unfortunately Dr. Jim will be leaving his practice here
and will be moving to France in December. Yeah, quite a shocker. However
his partner, Dr. Karen, will stay and be taking over. She is Carol's health
care provider and quite a special person as well. All things happen for
the best.
Day 1290- 2:32am - Nov. 12, 2000 EST
Stung 16x yesterday morning on my shoulders, sides, hands, waist, thighs, calves and feet.
Started and stung 1x atop each shoulder. Then, 1x on each hand - between thumb and index finger. Then, 2x on down each side starting from below the armpits. Then, 1x on each of my buttocks and 1x on each side of my waist. Then, 1x atop each thigh and finally 1x atop each foot - just above the large toe.
Every time I sting I am reminded once again just why I do it. Although the currents of life indeed make keeping on with the routine a clear challenge, one perseveres. Many folks write and ask about the motivation to stick with the program - especially with the inherent "discomfort" there is in Bee Venom Therapy. Here's an e-maill from a man that tells it like it is. Herb, writes:
". . .As for the intense pain, just get your mind busy with something else and forget it. Our human brain can only handle one thought at a time, so if you must think about the sting, keep on thinking about the good it is doing for your body. . . " Herb
Makes sense. And here's another e-mail from a woman who treats folks with bee venom. "Mother" writes:
". . . we were treating a lady every 3 days with 14-20 stings per session for about 2 months she was getting great results and then just stopped......too bad because she was coming right along...very important to stick with it..isnt it. . . . re: sticking with BVT and getting your mind off the pain......This modality WORKS and people who are using it to help their bodies heal from what ever they are suffering from should give thanks for every bee's life they are sacrificing for their own. What's a little discomfort compared to what the alternatives are of leaving your dis-ease untreated? . . . " Mother
I read these e-mails on the Apether-ListServe and thought
that it put the "pain" issue into some kind of perspective.
But getting stung is kind of like riding a bike. Until
you really experience the therapy - the pain and then the relief it offers
- it's just not fully understood. But until something better comes along,
this is the thing to do. For me.
Day 1297- 12:46pm - Nov. 19, 2000 EST
Stung 12x yesterday evening on my shoulders, neck, back, hands and chest..
Started and stung 1x atop each shoulder. Then, 1x on each hand - on the side just above the pinky finger. Then, 2x on each side of my lower back approx. 3" from the spine. And finally, 1x on each side of my torso on my chest.
Some of those areas I haven't stung in quite a while and yes indeed, they stung. But it's important to move those stings around and give those other areas a rest.
And last night I went to see my kids in their school production of The Music Man. It was great to be part of it - of what the family does together - and I know my kids and wife were glad that I went. Well, thanks to Bee Venom Therapy I had the energy, desire and stamina to go and participate. And once again, that's really what this therapy is all about. Living.
Here's a great letter of support that I received this week from one who is reflecting. Some interesting thoughts about pain. HK writes:
"Hi Barry, just checked your journal, as I do occasionally. Maybe I have contacted you before...can't remember...but, regarding the pain, I found that the better you get the more it hurts! A good thing! I quit...I wasn't in a wheelchair then...I am now. So who is to know, hang in there. You are doing a good thing to keep on truckin'. And as you say, the cure will come soon and you will be happy you did what you did! It will pay off in the end, and I'm sure soon!! You'll see. HK
What a caring and thoughtful letter.
So inspiring. Smart too. A person who is able to step out of themselves
for an instant and see the "whole" picture. No one knows all the answers
to overcoming this "dis-ease" but "keeping on keeping on" is the best and
smartest thing one can do - for themselves. I wish HK all good things and
perhaps a few stings every now and then might offer a little relief and
some surprises. You never know.
Day 1305- 9:23am - Nov. 27, 2000 EST
Stung 8x yesterday morning on my thighs, hips, calves and feet.
Started and stung 1x on each thigh. Then, 1x on each hip and 1x on each calf. Then, 1x atop each foot.
Had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend with my family. We all had and continue to have much to be grateful for. Took a trip into the "big" city, Binghampton, and shopped for presents. Gavin, my son, Will be 17 years old next month and Carol's birthday, my beautiful wife, has a birthday Dec. 7th.
Katrina, my 14 year old, had been after me to go to a
movie with her for weeks - and this weekend we went for it. We went to
see Charlie's Angels and had a really fun time. Popcorn, soda, candy -
the whole nine yards. Afterwards we meandered about the mall - me on my
electric scooter and Katrina at my side. We really did the "father &
daughter" thing. Time with my kids - they'll be grown up and gone soon
enough - is something I value and am determined to make the most of, MS
or not. And that's why I keep on stinging. There's no doubt in my mind
that Bee Venom Therapy is what makes doing the things I want to do - the
things that are important to me - possible and doable. When I sting I'm
energized and have what it takes to get out of my "self" and and my otherwise
"sleepy and stiff" body and get going. Going to a movie and strolling the
mall isn't what life's all about. But I certainly feel "alive" doing it.
Day 1311- 9:12am - Dec. 3, 2000 EST
Stung 12x this morning on my thighs, shoulders, arms, waist and calves.
Started and stung 1x atop each shoulder. Then, 1x on each arm - below the elbow. Then, 1x on each side of my waist and 2x atop each thigh and finally 1x on each calf.
Good session this morning and felt very loose and strong afterwards although I have to admit I really felt those stings this morning. It's strange how sometimes the seem to burn more than other times. Katrina, my 14 year old, did the stinging for me this morning before heading off to school. She's very good at it and gets it done in a hurry - which is great for me. Love to get it all done 1-2-3.
The weather has gotten really cold and wintery thks past week and a dusting of snow covers the ground. Used the last of the remaining bees in the Bee Hotel this morning - many seemed to have just expired over the weekend. Katrina will head down to the hives later this week and bring back more. The kids really have it together when it comes to coaxing the bees out of the hives in the cold weather.
Here's an e-mail from my good cyber-friend John talking about his thoughts regarding pain. John writes:
". . . Hi, I too have been thinking on pain lately. Remember, pain is part of the body's defense system. If possible we (or any beast) is supposed to get away from the source of pain. When you know the cause of the pain and the brevity of the duration it is manageable because of the salubrious results. So the occasional gasps are worth it. . . " John
Just love that John - he always has such a "common sense"
and intelligent approach to this therapy. And he should. He's a committed
stinger and sees the benefits in his life.
Started and stung 1x atop each shoulder. Then, 2x down each of my sides below the armpit. Then, 1x on each hip and finally 2x on my lower back - just above the waist.
Weather has been real cold and snowy and it has been very difficult to get the bees out of the hives. Finally got Katrina, my 14 year old, to bring up a jarful. The bees are hibernating but the kids know how to stir them awake.
Dr. Jim and Dr. Karen were over Sat. night for dinner. It was really pleasant and we will all be missing Jim when he leaves on Dec. 27th.. He's making a life and career move and leaving to France - permanently. He has fallen in love with a French woman after separating from his wife two years ago. At age 52. having been married twice with children ranging from 12 to 27, Jim is experiencing love as never before. And his thought on love - and life - are so genuine as to be inspiring - to me. In a previous e-mail Dr. Jim wrote:
. . . This move that I am making at this point in my life is as much, if not more, a part of my spiritual growth as anything else. Life really is, at it's center, about love, and I deeply believe that we are here to foster the growth of love on the planet, both within us and with all other living beings. I have read both Moody's books and Kubler-Ross's autobiography, and am in synch with their thoughts. This woman I have met is capable of receiving and giving love - and it has been a difficult realization for me to make in the past that many people, despite being offered love, are just not able to fully accept it. My wife of 21 years was one of those people. . . . I realize now that I had never truly fallen in love with anyone in my life - until [this past] May. Once it happens to you, you realize what it is, and what has been lacking in your life. . . . The pain of departure is real, and at times pretty terrible (I am thinking about my kids in particular). But, one of us had to move to a strange land and start over, and it just worked out that it would be me. My kids will see me three times/year for extended visits, and I have provided financially for them nas well as their mom. I will miss my patients - but I know I will find more over there. . . But, I feel strongly that I am doing the right thing, the thing that will help me continue to unfold the love that I feel is in my heart - not just for this new woman in my life (her name is Yolaine), but also for all the beings on the planet and beyond. Kubler-Ross was right, I think, when she said in her book that the most difficult task we will all eventually face is that of loving all beings unconditionally, and that it is the necessary step before breaking the chain of life, death and rebirth, before acheiving final liberation. We'll see..... . I read that excerpt [Journal entry Day 1238 - Sept. 21, 2000 EST], from the woman [Judy Alveraz] you told me about who died. She was talking about life after death, Raymond Moody, etc. I am convinced that she was right, and that we do continue - the evidence for that is just overwhelming, if one has open eyes. . . " Jim
Wow, what a guy and man will I ever miss him! He helped
me to get started on this Bee Venom journey almost 4 years ago and his
support has been invaluable as he continues to encourage me to press on.
"It's working for you, right?" he exclaims.
The community will have a farewell party for him this
Thursday at the firehouse. Karen will be absorbing his practice into hers
as we are all preparing for change. I'm really proud of Dr. Jim - he's
taking his life into his own hands and doing what he can - and "must" do.
In many ways it's a similar experience with what I am going through in
dealing with this "dis-ease". Living life.
Day 1324- 3:35pm - Dec. 16, 2000 EST
Stung 14x this morning on my shoulders, back, buttocks, thighs, calves and feet.
Started and stung 2x atop each thigh. Then, 2x down the sides of my back. Then, 1x on each calf and 1x on each buttock and 1x atop each foot above the big toe. Finally 1x atop each shoulder.
Always a challenge to keep those bees alive. But getting stung always makes me feel better. Better than before the session. I read a lot of e-mail from folks who are giving it a shot but. . . not quite sure. Is it worth it?
Janie, my dear friend and cyber-pal Ray's wife, sent out this e-mail last week. Janie writes:
Dear Friends & Family - Fortunately, a bed became available today in the nursing home that we had as our first choice on our list. Raymond was transferred there this afternoon, and is settled into his room, which he's sharing with a pleasant man from Navarre Beach. The boys and I went to see him tonight and had a nice visit. Man, I really have fond feelings for this man. Although we've never met face-to-face I feel like we really know one another. He started Bee Venom Therapy soon after I had. And over the years we compared notes and we argued as to this threrapy's merits. Ray had tried this therapy for at least a couple of years - if not longer. If you go back through my journals you will come across many e-mails from Ray.
But not to long ago he gave it up and stopped because he felt that it was not working in his life. That it wasn't worth it - for him. And that's what makes this "dis-ease" so difficult. There aren't any "pat" answers. We're all on this trip by ourselves doing what we can with whatever there is. I wish him all good things and blessings. If you feel like corresponding with Ray, I know that Janie (his wife) gives him his e-mails. Something for him to look forward to, and I'm sure he'd appreciate it.
So. . . is Bee Venom therapy worth it? I say simply -
only you'll know whether or not it is.
Carol has made the water & sugar syrup for the bees
to eat (must check on its consistency at all times) and the kids have brought
up a jarful of bees from the hives. And I, I've got to keep them alive
so that I can do this Bee Venom Therapy.
Is it worth it? It is for me.
Day 1329- 9:53am - Dec.21, 2000 EST
Stung 18x this morning on my my shoulders, back, buttocks, thighs, calves, knees and feet.
Started and stung 1x atop each shoulder and 2x down the sides of my back. Then, 1x on each buttock and 1x atop each foot above the big toe. Then, 1x atop each thigh and finally 1x on the inside of each knee.
Once again the session was a good one. I'd been feeling a bit tight and stiff especially since it has been a while since I've been out in the pond swimming and stretching all those muscles. Also, Coleen, my part-time physical therapist, is back here visiting her folks for the holidays. She came by yesterday morning and worked out with me for a bit. It was great to see her again. She's in graduate school now and will be working and studying about MS next semester and is anxious to find out what she can for me. She's also anxious to share her belief in Bee Venom Therapy with her teachers and classmates. Once again she let me know that as far as she can tell, I'm holding my own and seem to be as stable as ever. Always great to hear and to get another's opinion. But no doubt "school" will be promoting the drugs and poo-pooing the bees. Well. We'll see.
It's also Gavin's (my son) birthday today. 17 years old. We'll be having a family celebration this afternoon when the kids get home from school. Lots to celebrate and be grateful for.
And how about this little note from a woman in Kentucky: Joyce writes:
Hi,My name is Joyce Williamson and I have ALS and take a lot medicine and herbs.I ordered Pat's book [How Well Are You Willing To Bee by Pat Wagner] and will start in a week.In feburary my doctor said I had 6 months to a year to live.I can't walktalk or chew I am typeing with one finger that works. With GOD'S help and the BEEShelp I will see CHRISTMAS next year. Joyce Williamson 57 years old a widow Eddyville,Kentucky jw0@apex.net
Well, 'tis the season to send out good will and cheer
and my "all" goes out to this courageous lady. Joyce is a winner - you
can just tell from where she's coming. She's not giving up. She's taking
matters into her own hands and taking charge - of her life. My prayers
are with her. . . today and for years to come. My blessings to you
Joyce - and thanks for the inspiration.
Day 1337- 9:20am - Dec. 29, 2000 EST
Stung 6x yesterday afternoon on my, hips, and hands.
Started and stung 1x on each hip. Then, 2x on each hand - 1x between thumb and index finger and 1x on the sides below the pinky finger.
The weather here is absolutely frigid and and we're expecting a foot of snow tomorrow. The bees in the Bee Hotel have all expired - don't know why - and I was lucky to have had the few remaining ones that I used. The kids will get me more but the weather will have to improve a bit - enough for the kids to at least make it down to the hives. I could have used some more stings but the important thing is to at least keep that venom in the system.
Spent the day before yesterday in Albany with the family
in the mall. Ah, it was just great scooting in and out of the shops, the
kids spending their "holiday" gift money, crowds of people milling all
about shopping - `returning and exchanging gifts - and all the rest. I
was immersed in the hustle & bustle of life - the energy and activity
all around me and it was wonderful. And that's what Bee Venom Therapy is
all about - for me. Having the desire, inclination and energy to participate
in "life". Sure, it would have been easy - and acceptable - for me to have
backed off and remained home. After all, I wasn't into doing any "shopping".
But I was into something else, spending time with my family
and having fun.
