Alberta Hutchinson Gilbert Block In addition to the usual ongoing maintenance and repairs, the windowsills at the back of the building and the basement floors in the Gilbert Block Quilt Shop were repaired so Nona Slaughter could expand her work space. A fresh clean classroom space with room for twelve students has been established. After much research, Larry Smith discovered that replacing the stone curbing in front of the Gilbert Block was impossible because the height of the existing road caused drainage problems. Post Office Four new wooden shutters were installed. So far, the furnace is holding. The Post Office Park got a new light and a new bulletin board - complete with new letters. The Overlook A new post and pipe handrail is being installed on the right hand side of the new sidewalks. Chris Lord had the new posts molded to match the original posts as closely as possible. A stone corner post where the two arcs of the railings meet will be installed - a feature which was there originally. Upcoming: An attractive and suitably historic-looking park light for the back corner of the river side garden. The light meter is already there. Trees Ten trees were planted around the village this fall. Little by little, the spaces along the streets are filling in. Activities We had another summer of successful Wednesday evening Farmer’s Markets and sponsored a Fall Festival in conjunction with the Art Workshop of the Baptist Church. The festival featured four award-winning scarecrows staked out on the Overlook.
